I noticed this too (but after three posts), especially after asking what language they were interested in learning, and the answer I got back was three of the four offered on the site.

Well i have to admit it can be improved but as i said think its in a beta phase and if
they improve it i would choose lingpedia before RS that costs quite a bit. So instead
of criticizing a FREE language tool you can contribute with suggestions of other good
language learning tools that are for FREE.

Two comments:

1. You were in fact opening the door to comments about the site you appear to be
flogging. If you only wanted favourable comments, best to have specified. But it is
beyond rude to invite comments and then criticize those who provide them.

2. You folks looking to promote a website under the guise of someone who just stumbled
across it could really benefit from becoming more sophisticated in your efforts, as it
takes all the challenge out of it for us if you make it so obvious.

Apologies in the event that I am misreading this, but one day on the site, five emails,
all promoting or defending a site I have never heard of just seems a little fishy.

Well, I thought exactly the same thing on his first post but rather than challenge him, I thought I would just give my unrestrained first reaction.

If I'd believed he was genuine, I would have been far less aggro about it and would have given a calmer, more rational description of why it is of little use to a serious learner. The criticism would have been constructive.

I'm open to giving genuine feedback to people who ask for it honestly and openly, but anyone who comes along like KG did isn't being honest or open, and has earned any honesty or openness from me.

I can see a market for refrigeration in the arctic.

Yeah, but the fridges RS would sell would be over-priced and they wouldn't work!

Of course they could:

- That's because food absorbs the cold naturally, like a child eats ice cream.

- No boring temperature controls.

- An RS fridge is used by NASA in the astronaut lounge!

- It's the fastest way to freeze your leftovers, guaranteed!"

You're attributing that to the wrong person. Go back and look at what you've quoted.

One question, are you or are you not connected with the SPAM website?

No, he's right -- I'm the one that was flaming the site. I've gone and revisited the site, and it is constantly going down in my estimation. It's a cheap copy of RS/LiveMocha, and it is far more restricted than either of them.

I could give a full critique, but I don't know what good it will do.

Either:
A) KG is genuinely just a fan, and my criticisms will do no good.
or:
B) KG runs the site and gets free consultancy work without even asking politely.

I did the first 25 (out of 100) lessons of Mango Languages Spanish course. It is a totally free software/program, but you have to have a library card to use it. It is kind of like doing Pimsleur on the computer. It does not take you too far in the language, but it is FREE and it worked fine for an absolute beginner course.
