1 - What are the best/most recommended FSI/DLI courses? (the french FSI course seems to have a solid reputation, but what about the others?)

2 - Is there a tangible difference/improvement between FSI and DLI courses/approaches?

3 - Did someone here really tried to learn arabic (MSA and/or dialects) with DLI courses? If yes, what are your thoughts?

Just delete the spaces from the links above when you copy and paste and they will work
fine.

Thanks a lot for the links, there are good discussions posted.

Unfortunately, none of the specific questions I made are answered on these threads.

Or perhaps they are answered in one of these threads marked with "UPGRADE NOW", which, with all respect for the supporting members, I prefer not to.

The reason why I asked these questions is I'm trying to adopt a mixed approach on my language learning, and FSI seemed like a valuable extra tool.

I personally recommend DLI Basic Spanish. (Unfortunatelly I have only the text version without the audio. If anyone knows where the recordings can be found I would very much appreciate the tip). I think that DLI is at least as good as FSI Basic Spanish/Platiquemos if not better. There is less emphasis on somewhat mechanical repetition and substitution drills and more on answering questions about the dialogues and narrations as well as translation exercises. It leaves you with an impressive vocabulary ( if you can stomach loads of vocab and expressions with a military slant :-))

Yes, the military bias/jargon is probably useless to me...

I feel those courses are not very attractive to me on european languages (I mean, within the indoeuropean branch) like Spanish, french, German or even russian, in which Assimil (and alikes) already does the trick to me, accompanied with a good grammar. With such familiar languages, the feeling of being able to walk on my own feet happens much earlier.

What entices me most about DLI/FSI is the opportunity to get a solid work on hard and distant languages like arabic and chinese, because that's a field in which I believe I cannot attain the same independency/proficiency with "normal" courses (or, at least, I never came close to).

I'm very impressed with some excerpts of DLI arabic (MSA and dialects), and it sounds like a rewarding work, military slant and all...

Is this what you're looking for:

FSI Spanish Baisc

EDIT: (Sorry...just realized you wanted the DLI audio and not the FSI audio)
