I was looking on YouTube for demonstrations of Perso-Arabic handwriting, and I came
across the videos made by Yousef (username farsiyadbegirim). He apparently has a program called Spider Farsi (available at www.spiderfarsi.com), and the first few lessons of each of his courses are available on his YouTube channel. His Persian lessons seem good (if a bit dragged out), and his alphabet lessons were extremely helpful - exactly what I was looking for! I signed up for his mailing list, and the emails he sends out about once a week are great. He is obviously really dedicated and passionate about teaching useful, colloquial spoken Persian. It's like having a Persian best friend who explains all the nuances and pitfalls to you - things like the difference between the two common words for "sun", or which "thank you" you should use in which situation, etc. He also seems to an accomplished language learner himself, with proficiency in English, German (he teaches in these two languages), French, and Spanish. I've been keen to buy his program for a while, but there's one problem... the price. All the courses together cost 230 Euros. I have little doubt based on his videos and emails that this is a one-of-a-kind program, and an especially rare opportunity for a language which suffers from a dearth of good learning materials, but I'm curious about how much is actually offered in each course. If each course is packed with information, then I'll probably give this program the first priority on my language materials checklist, but if the price is somewhat inflated like Pimsleur, it will be a little harder to shell out that much money.
