So, how was it Ericounet? It's very expensive, but I'm tempted to buy it or the Spanish version, just because I'll be
sure to get the right combination, and have nice convenient packaging, etc. It looks like the French version is the
only one of the two that has the new (2008) edition.

I have both and use both :) They are completely different books. The NEW French edition
is better much more progressive. The dialogs are shorter and there are more lessons. My
recommendation is to use both. I found that the prior version is closer to what might
one expect from the Using series. Use both the 100 lesson one first and then the 70
lesson one. In combination they are brilliant! (I love the new book it's really well
done.)

Hi,
I bought my version in 2000. I didn't take a look at the 2008 version.
They are not expensive here (I think 60€ is not expensive for an book/audio course).
But I prefer the old 1951 version ...
I got the French version and the English version, and the explanations are better in the French version. The English translations of the dialogues are sometimes somewhat strange :) If you can read and understand French, take the French version.
Eric!

I haven't used the most recent version (2008) at all, and just had a quick glance at the oldest one (1951). But I'm working my way through the other two (Russisch ohne mühe and Russisch ohne mühe heute in my German editions) and they are both good. If I had to pick one I would go for the former (1971), but as others have suggested, there's nothing wrong with using various versions in parallell. I might lay my hands on Le Russe as well ...
Of course you have to get hold of second-hand copies for the older courses, but I think it's worth it tracking them down.
