Here's an interesting thought: what season is the best to learn a language? Summer? Winter? When do you feel most comfortable studying?
I know that for me weather has an important influence on my studies. When it is cold I have hard time to focus, just as much when it is too hot. I live in a temperate climate and in a lowland (Pannonia), so the temperatures here vary greatly throughout the year. At the moment the weather is very chaotic, April usually is quite unpredictable, and every other day its burning hot and then, like today, freezing cold. And it always was like this. Nothing to do with climate change or global warming. However the mild temperatures, like around 20-25 degrees Celsius are when I feel the most comfortable and I can focus very well on my studies. Do you have similar issues or do you live in a relatively monotone climate? And if so would you move somewhere else if you could just so that you could study better? My very strong seasonal allergy to pollen makes it very unpleasant to exist in the spring. However, I have learned to reply and then blow my nose very quickly in between cues when doing FSI drills.

This is actually something I've thought about this winter. Since I live in the upper midwest of the US, we tend to get pretty harsh winters. This winter has been pretty harsh, in particular. Nobody really wants to go out into the elements unless they have to. So it's down to reading, watching TV, listening to the radio, etc.
Since I really don't watch all that much TV, I've gotten a lot accomplished this year from around November on with my language learning. Now that the weather is starting to get nicer (except for the last couple days - Spring and Mother Nature seem to be having a lover's quarrel and I wish they'd kiss and make up already), I probably won't spend quite as much time on concentrated learning, other than at night. But who knows... I've set certain goals for myself and plan on meeting them, so I'm committed to do whatever I need to do to accomplish that. If that means getting to a backyard barbecue an hour later or whatever, so be it. R. == 1 person has voted this message useful | |

For me, it would be fall or winter. Maybe it's the effect of going back to school in the fall, but fall seems like a time of new beginnings for me. In the summer, the weather is nice and I'm easily distracted.

Here in the Virgin Islands we have all 4 seasons- "Early Summer", "Summer", "Late Summer" and "Next Summer"! All of our "seasons" are best for learning languages except hurricane season and only then when there's an actual hurricane.
