I just watched the first episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones and was curious about the fictional Dothraki language that linguist Dave Banks developed for the series. I found a detailed interview with him in the Wired magazine. The Language Creation Society also has a Dothraki blog with additional information.

Very interesting. If I had the chance, I'd love to create my own language.

There will also be an upcoming interview with him, likely to be posted on the www.westeros.org site. They've done a lot of work with Dothraki and evidently also on some other languages (for Asshai & the White Walkers). I'm curious to see what the lexicon for end of Season 1 will look like!

"and the sound of it owes a lot to Arabic and Spanish (it’s kind of like Arabic plus Spanish divided by two … squared). " I thought the language sounded oddly familar to me. I was actually trying to figure out what language it was when I saw this. Thanks for the post.
