Thanks for the information. Guess I don't think globally.

Don Casteel: I also really like Platiquemos and I'd take it over "Crazy" any day. The Platiquemos site looks much more professional than the "Crazy" site, and you seem much more trustworthy than the "Crazy" team that posts fake reviews on Amazon.com and possibly message boards. I only wish there was a "Hanashimashoo" for Japanese or a "women liaotian ba" for Chinese.

Luke once said that he thinks that Platiquemos is a "labor of love." I believe that.

I think of LSLC as being more like a limburger cheese. No matter how good it might be, there's still that smell.

This morning, I received the following registered letter from New York (where else?) lawyers:

WE ARE HEREBY DEMAND that you immediately remove any and all statements from your website concerning Learning Spanish Like Crazy and /or Patrick Jackson, including, but not limited to, direct and indirect references to Learning Spanish Like Krazy and Mr Jackson.
As a result of the defamatory and slanderous statements, our client has suffered substantial monetary damages and irreparable injury to its reputation.
Our client wishes to resolve this matter in an amicable manner without the expense of litigation. Howeber, if you refuse to comply with all of our requests between three days of the date of this letter, we will have no other option but to commence a law suit against you and your company for slander, defamation of character and libel.

Since I don't want to waste my time on this, I've removed the review of "Crazy" from the website. I don't think I made any defamatory or slanderous statements (on his website Jackson refers to material he says he learned from Platiquemos among other programs as "useless junk") I'm just going to let the matter drop.
However, if anybody should e-mail me privately and ask for my opinions about Learning Spanish Like Crazy, I don't think even New York lawyers could stop me from responding.

For the moderator: I don't know if you'd think it wise to remove my comments from this forum. Do what you think is best.

A P.S. LCLC ("Crazy") now has a one page website, on which the statement is made:

"You learn spoken Spanish not the useless junk taught in classrooms and other Spanish courses"    Obviously, that must include Platiquemos, and if that's not derogatory I don't know what would be!

Makes one wonder about the legality of taking a book in
the public domain, like Programmatic Spanish, and
adding a new title page with copyright notice on the
scanned document. Or how about taking audio from a
public domain source and adding "TITLE all rights
reserved" to the beginning, and a chime sound to the
end.

I still think Crazy is most unethical in its selling methods, obviously orchestrated reviews on Amazon.com, etc. Lest anybody think I'm particularly cowardly from backing off from these lawyers, I'm going to sign off in a way I haven't for years.

I may have this wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere that Patrick Jackson is a lawyer in New York State.

I really don't think it would be necessary to remove Mr. Casteel's remarks. Any comments by Mr. Jackson would be just as welcome here.
