Just an update on my own message. I had my notes organized and published. Details about
the book "Learning Spanish Words Through Etymology and Mnemonics" are here:
http://yong321.freeshell.org/lsw/

Basically, I categorize vocabulary study methods into two groups: word analysis and rote
memory. Within the first one, there are etymology and mnemonics. For an English speaking
person, fortunately, Spanish vocabulary can make use of both about 50% each (unlike say
Arabic or Chinese, where most words have to rely on mnemonics if you don't like rote
memory). What I propose is a combination approach: try etymology first, then mnemonics
if etymology is insufficient.

Any critique or corrections are very welcome.

Just a heads up that you might want to post this on
www.forum.language-learners.org as well. Of course
this site is still in use but due to various
technical issues an alternative forum was set up
and is a lot more active than this one.
