Exactly, the same thing pretty much happened to me, and it just gets worse and worse when you keep thinking day and night about when you can switch that one language from "Intermediate level" to "Basic fluency" just to feel satisfied with yourself...

I know that if you already know French and Spanish, Italian should come easily, like buy 2 get 1 free! So, out of
mild curiosity, I recently peeked into Italian. Sure enough, many things are similar and I could understand and read
pretty easily. However, 2 languages seem to be enough for me, because I know I don't have the time to give to
learning a 3rd language, even a "free one." I might dream of learning others, but my life now really doesn't give me
the time, so I'm satisfied with maintaining my 2. That's enough of a challenge sometimes!
Also, I don't want to start something that I can do just a little bit of. If I begin a language, I want to do it really well
and I know I just don't have the time.
Now, if I won the lottery and suddenly had lots of free time ...

Too late for me too. I don't think I can die happy unless I know at least 10 languages.

I think I'll always be learning languages just because I enjoy it so much. I don't have any set number I want to learn, but I'll be adding more languages as soon as I can fit it into my schedule. As other people commented, this forum doesn't help much in regard to wanderlust - every time I come on here I see some fascinating new language. Right now Slovak looks really interesting . . .

Only a couple languages, is not a small matter. Really, I find I always have something to do on either Finnish or Japanese. Only a couple of languages is a lot of work. Even one is a lot of work.

I've been thinking about when to upgrade myself to intermediate in Japanese, but I think I've decided I won't do this until I get past JLPT2 or so, which optimistically might happen in a year or two.
So far I don't think I suffer too much from Wanderlust. I am working on both Finnish and Japanese, but I feel like I have good reasons for both. At one time I entertained ideas of resurrecting my high school German, but I've tossed that language into the wood chipper for now to make more time for Finnish.
