I've a quick question for those of you who have discussed Pimsleur and Assimil Russian.
Did you find you learned a lot from Assimil even after all three Pimsleurs? I'm going to try and find somewhere to buy Assimil, but I don't want the same stuff as Pimsleur again, would like to progress somewhat. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I have always found Pimsleur extremely tame and pedestrian. Most of the sentences are far too simple, and they are often just slight variants of each other. Certainly not worth the price tag

FSI, Colloquial, Teach Yourself. These are the only ones I have tried. Every program has it's pros and cons, but I like these 3 programs very much.

Assimil! If you really like assimil though, you should learn french so you can have a much wider selection of resources

Hi,
I like: assimil, DLI, Pimsleur, Thomas ... But I think, the better method is to use many different methods, read books, listen to the TV or radio, study grammatical books. I mix all of theses at the same time. languages: Russian, English, German .. I tested Japanese with Pimsleur but only a few lessons. I focus on Russian at this moment. Watch BBC series in English (but don't remember if in English, I have to write English or English ...: I'll have to look for ... :) Eric! ----- 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I've also been mixing. Still i think you should push one method slightly more, since i believe completion is quite important. I finished MT, and now focusing more on pimsleur. i have grammar books, but i don't use them every day, where as my main method must be daily. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I was doing Pimsleur but it was just too long and too slow. From what I've done of
Pimsleur in German the speakers only worked on the polite form and never the informal one. Also, it's hard to understand what you are learning if you only listen and say but not read. 1 person has voted this message useful |
