Just heard this from doviende: "A1 is like what I get by accidentally tripping over a
textbook left on the ground"   (on the subject of British Columbia education programs
estimating 4 years for that)

„Wer fremde Sprachen nicht kennt, weiß nichts von seiner eigenen.“ (J. W. von Goethe)
He who does not know foreign languages does not know anything about his own.

This is, by far, my favourite language quote. It seems to me that it is so true, because during my language study, I have discovered more and more about Romanian, doing grammatical connections for example, or watching foreigners talking trying to guide their steps through the discovery of this magnificent language using English, or even German.

However, on this site one can find lots of other language quotes, although I think that non-classical quotes from the forum's members (like Sprachprofi's above) are even more interesting!

I think this one is pretty cool:

I like this one: "All Romance languages are essentially the same. Except French." --Andreas Johansson

Kolik jazyků znáš, tolikrát jsi člověkem

A Czech proverb meaning: the more languages you know, the more times a person you are. Not a great translation but hopefully you get the meaning.
