Thanks for letting me know about the differences between the desktop and ipod versions of the software. I spent about an hour playing around with the desktop version of the software this morning, and I absolutely love it. So far, I have individual decks for Spanish vocabulary, Spanish grammar, and terms for my upcoming epidemiology midterm.
My favorite feature by far is the ability to customize the background color. I uploaded all of my Spanish vocabulary cards and customized the background for all Spanish vocab in pink. (I chose pink because the cover of my Spanish textbook is pink.)
French will get blue, and Italian will get green.
I've found that color coding by language and subject matter helps me keep languages and subjects separated in my head. When I'm trying to think of a Spanish word, I first think 'pink' and then go from there.
I'm dyslexic, though, and my brain works very differently from most people's, so I'm not sure this color coding system would work for anyone else. I didn't think I'd be able to take from my paper-based flashcard system into a virtual system, so I'm very pleased to see this feature in Anki.
