Would it be accurate to say that the biggest advantage on using pattern drills is immediate reinforcement? Could a student be taught a language's grammar entirely by using pattern drills. According to John Locke's Theory of Mind, any seemingly complex idea can be reduced down to a simpler idea. Theoretically, do you think a structural linguist could develop a language program that teaches the targeted language's grammar entirely in pattern drills? If so, then can the student be trusted in accuracy in deciding if a particular drill was answered correctly? Can the A.I. of the language program compensate for the learners inability or slowness to learn a grammar point?
