Pavilion,

You've got me rather baffled here. I can only assume that (for whatever reason) you entirely misunderstood much of my last posting in German?

You say: "My question to you was genuine and I thought that I had expressed it in an acceptable and mild-mannered way". Well, okay, so it was a genuine and mild mannered question. Who the hell suggested that it wasn't? (I certainly didn't!)

You say: "I expected a short reply and/or explanation." Well, that's pretty much what you got, didn't you? You asserted that the way I express myself "doesn't sound English"; I bluntly replied that I consider this remark to be rubbish.

So where's the problem? Am I not allowed to disagree with your opinion!?

You say: "It appears I either hit a raw nerve or you like to behave rather aggressively towards your fellow language learners."

Well, I'm not the one who is going around questioning the competence of other forum members in their own mother tongues, am I? Yet you accuse ME of behaving "aggressively"!

Nevertheless I did very clearly state in my last post "Ich bin nicht beleidigt" (I'm not offended.)

As I say above, I can only assume that (doubtless due to my poor German) you didn't really understand what I was saying in my last post?

My goodness, you really are set on having an argument, aren't you.

I can understand German perfectly well, thank you. I am also more than able to spot inappropriate use of register in the English language, which was why I asked you the question in the first place.

As I stated in my previous post: "Instigating an argument was not, and is not my aim here. I suggest we end the discussion regarding your English as of now in order to prevent any further escalation."

If you are that desperate for an argument I suggest you pop round to see your mother-in-law.

As for me, I'm off to enjoy this forum with people who are here for reasons other than picking fights.

Pavilion,

I will leave it to other forum members to decide which one of us is "set on having an argument".

For my part, I have tried (and still am trying) to be polite towards you - despite the increasingly unpleasant tone of your comments.

As I have already twice before stated, I am NOT offended by you. I am basically very tolerant towards those with different opinions to myself - even if (as here) these opinions are in the nature of ludicrous and ill-informed personal criticisms.

You should carefully consider the wisdom of calling into question the ability of another person to express himself in his own native language.

Some people (less tolerant than I) might conclude that this is an extremely foolish, insolent and presumptuous thing to do.

I hope that helps.

NB This exchange is now firmly closed (from my side anyway.)
