Yes, the "Scandinavians are communist socialists" is the absolute number one most infuriating myth about my country I can think of.

I cannot imagine communist Scandinavia statements coming from anyone who has really looked into it and seen what it really is. It's scary how corporations can twist something like free health care into an evil seed that will grow into a communist empire at the blink of an eye.

Edit: also looking at JuanM's statements about Scandinavians glorifying Latin-American guerilla groups, I can only hope he's joking. That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever read and I sincerely hope people don't believe that's the truth.

Ridiculous as facts:

Register for free to read the whole stories. The mother******* who sent money to the FARC were eventually convicted, but that it took several passes at the Danish justice system shows the degree of acceptance in that society of the worst kind of torture and inhumanity as long as it is carried out in the name of Marx.

Like I said, many Europeans are either brainwashed or plainly ignorant of the nature of their political system and their countries' role in the world.

I don't know much Spanish so I won't be able to read the stories, but from what I can understand you base your statement:

"Some Scandinavians celebrate, glorify and even donate money to groups (...). And why do the Danes and Swedes support such brutality? Because it is committed in the name of Socialism, the new European religion."

..on the fact that it took several rounds in the Danish court system before a guy who donated money to FARC was convicted of it? I don't even know where to begin..

Please, do let me know about the nature of our political system and our countries' role in the world.

Your statement connecting Scandinavian social-democracy to Latin American communists killing in the name of Marx shows just how little you have actually studied what's going on in the countries you're condemning.

For the love of God, the phenomenon was even christened as the Copenhagen Syndrome by the editor of Foreign Policy.

What was? The court case? You didn't answer my question, did you base the statement I quoted on a single Danish court case? I would again also like to know about the nature of our political system and our countries' roles in the world, and if you could elaborate on the similarities between Scandinavian social-democracy and Latin American Marxism that would be great because I am honestly a bit confused. This is the first time I've heard someone hatefully label Scandinavians as communist-supporting socialists, and I am curious to know more.

I don't feel like writing much, so ask someone here to translate the articles for you in order to obtain a little background. Basically, some Danish punks were openly glorifying and sending money to the brutal FARC, so they were prosecuted for financing terrorism. Initially they were acquitted because an honorable Danish high court determined that the FARC were fighting for "social justice" and thus were no terrorists. You cannot begin to imagine how hurtful that sentence was for a people that has suffered so terribly under their oppression and witnessed them destroy so many innocent human beings.

As someone interested in economics, I've studied the Danish model in some detail. Its system of consultation and commonality of interests between workers and managers is admirable and could prove useful elsewhere. But I also believe it has disfigured your understanding of the world, leading to such perverse notions as those that supported the situation outlined above.

I Googled the court case and found some information about it, yes. Six Danish people were selling t-shirts with FARC and a Palestinian liberation front names on them, donating $3 per sold t-shirt to supporters of the respective organisations in order to spark a debate on Denmark's new anti-terrorism law which was/is close to the US's PATRIOT Act-law.

First off, six guys. That's all. You blow it far beyond propotion and make a single court case in a Danish district court be the judge of all Scandinavians. Now that's just silly.

Secondly, the reason the trial took so long in the court systems and went through numerous appeals is because the law they could be convicted of needed FARC and the other group to be classified as terrorists. The definition of terrorism was unclear whether it could be applied to FARC's activities. That's why it took so many rounds in the court system. But still, they were convicted! What is the issue?

Yes, these are perhaps mad notions that these guys present, I have not studied the situation in Colombia enough to make a statement on that, but the issue is whether it's illegal or not. It's generally not illegal to be mad. What does this have to do with socialism? Socialism has no connection with courts, which are also government-run in capitalistic countries.

First I would like to say that the case has not been in the highest Danish court yet, but no, I cannot imagine how hurtful the sentence was. Still it doesn't seem like you can imagine how surreal it is to have your social-democratic society connected to Marxistic revolutionaries in Latin America.

The article requires registration. Plus, what kind of paper is this? Left or right?

There is a bit of truth to the accusations in the case of Sweden. We've sure funded an awful lot of factories and the like in places like Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba, Tanzania and Mozambique, with taxpayers money. Some of these places are a bit corrupt, particularly Africa.

I'm not ashamed of that though. It was done in order to help THis was really expensive and it was pure charity. There is nothing at all in it for us. I once saw a whole town in Vietnam that was all built by Sweden; every school, clinic, house and factory.

Likewise giving money to the PLO (no thanks - can't stand them!) and IN THE PAST a few times to communist guerillas in South America.

It's a socialist solidarity thing, based on principle to share and support in this way. Th social democrats used to believe in. But I REALLY don't think it happens anymore It's not somthing that regular people would support.

Quite a lot of South American left wing people got political asylum in Sweden.

BUT:
We are not running sweatshops there either, exploiting poor farmers, forcing them to sell their products at pathetic prices, supporting murderous right-wing dictators, or invading small countries... Somebody is doing that, but not us... !

Like I said: What goes on in South America is NOT Europe's business,

As far as I'm concerned it's up to South America to find functional and fair systems that work for them. The outside world should NOT meddle.
