That's exactly what happened with the language that is my major in university - sad, isn't it? I loved the language to death, maybe I still do, but then I found out through ample experience that there is nothing in the language that I want to read or see, no books, no films, nothing, and in addition I simply don't get along with native speakers of the language no matter how hard I try. I'm too far along to quit university now, and changing majors would mean starting all over again, but I'm pretty sure I won't want to have anything to do with the language as soon as I graduate.

Well ! thread seem to be a bit long and too long is always painful and boring.
@ilperugino- I'm in a relationship with French but she seem like an egoistic person and doesn't response me at a great cost no matter how hard I flirt. so far I haven't decided to have a break-up, btw. I wanna understand her more. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

This is a very good point. It is so easy (especially with exotic languages) to get swept away with their 'look' and 'feel'. But if you're going to stick with it for the long run, then the really important questions are: 1.) Are you attracted to the people who speak the language? (i.e. to their culture, religion, traditions, etc?) 2.) Can you use the language for business, etc? 3.) Do you want to read lots of books and/or see films in the language? If there isn't at least 1 "yes" answer in the above questions, then it would be very unwise to invest any serious time in the language, I think. Further to my last post, there are a number of languages which I myself have learned, flirted with at one time, or considered learning. I find it quite interesting to 'audit' these according to the criteria of the above three questions:

Wow I often think of my languages as if I have relationships with them. Why did someone not make this thread
before? My relationships go as such: German: That sibling that I fought with so much as I got older. We started becoming more and more estranged and finally I just found a sibling in his cousin Dutch. I realized that I truly loved German, and decided to mend our relationship, and we are on our way to be the best siblings ever. (oh and I stopped hanging around Dutch, he got into some drug problems :) Russian: My lover who I refuse to ever leave. She makes my day when I see her. She's sometimes hard to get along with, but she's a lot of fun, and although we're making slow progress, I know that we will one day be the greatest love story that every existed. Polish: A cousin that I have always wanted to be friends with. She and I just have fun whenever we see each other at family get togethers. I see her so much, and our relationship is so natural, that we just became friends from the start without really noticing. I hope our relationship grows and that we become more like siblings than cousins. Farsi and Swahili: Friends that I don't get to see as much as I like, because I'm too consumed by my other relationships. I'd like to get to know them more, but as long as I have school, it's very difficult. Georgian: A lover that I started having an affair with about a year ago behind Russian's back. I felt bad, and I clean, but Russian didn't really care, she was having an affair with one of my friends. We decided that we were both cheating liars and that we were perfect for each other, and so we continued to have our forays with other people/languages, just as long as we loved each other.
