He definitely seems fluent in Russian (probably enough to pass as a native even),
with only a hint of a fleeting accent (could be Belorussian idk)
and a few odd word choices here and there (possibly due to nervousness or trying to
rephrase his responses to the interview on the fly).
As far as comments from journalists, it could be that they edited all the major mistakes
and deficiencies out from the already short interview. It's much easier to appear fluent
in a 2 minute interview than to convince a native in person, over a long duration.
Mila, who also seems fluent, has a heavier accent - not enough to impede communication but
just enough to arouse a feeling of far away exotic lands.
