And I know what you mean about being in awe of the superpolyglots. I have had both Richard Simcott and Luca Lampariello as guest in my home, and they were both super nice, but I still remember how nervous I was the first time I met them. Fortunately most of the superpolyglots are humble and nice people with great sense of humour. And your impression of Benny coincides with mine. So I went to the polyglot gathering and spoke an immense number of languages (even
those I am notoriously awful at, such as Greek, Portuguese, Spanish, etc.), but also spoke lots in my comfortable seven languages. The conference makes me feel like an exceptionally weak language learner, the way some people master their tools (a mastery I have only ever achieved in English, admittedly a language I have grown up with). There's no doubt I speak French or Romanian, for example, but I still feel like I am slightly less good than everyone else at what I do. And maybe I am an impressive polyglot with loads of languages on my badge, but I really should do better at a few (like German or Russian). But it doesn't matter. I made lots of new friends, met some of the great polyglots (including Benny, and I will never get all the hate he sometimes gets on here...), some HTLAL members including Iversen (I loved his talk), jeff_lindqvist, and a few others (Fasulye, Sprachprofi, VictorBerrjod (is he on here? And I heard you speaking Swedisch!:) Swedish was my real big surprise language at the Gathering! Of one of my "Facebook - friends" whose whole page is written in Swedish I can only understand not more than 50 %, but at the Gathering I listened to whole little groups talking Swedish and I could understand it very well. Of course I had to answer in Danish (Norwegian would also have been possible) because I have never learned any Swedish. WELL (I will go anyway.) Right now I have started Ana Pana to learn me sum Esperanto. The reason being that if everyone at future gatherings speaks Esperanto, then I might as well speak it too. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I haven't studied it yet, but I might, depending on the situation. I was planning to in
the fall, but Russia actually fell through and I have decided to start a TEFL online course and find work in that area (being unemployed sux) so I currently don't know. Hopefully I'll be done in a few weeks and maybe I will go on holiday to Scandinavia instead somewhere at the end of July. If I get my TEFL diploma, by the way (or, I should say, WHEN I get it, hehe), my aim is to get to Asia (preferably China or Korea) and study some Asian languages while I am at it. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Currently still working on my Greek and improving! :D
I've also decided that in winter I should probably try to get a French DELF diploma. I've asked my French tutor for advice. (She keeps suggesting I teach French to beginners, what is up with that...) 1 person has voted this message useful |
