Hello !
I was wondering if it's possible to find some subtitles either in Russian or in English for the movies or TV series that are not Russians.
Let's say I want to watch Отчаянные домохозяйки (Desperate Housewives), as I'm still a beginner, I don't understand anything...well I do recognize some words and I do understand as I've already watched it again and again in other languages.
But I feel that I'll learn faster with subtitles, that's how it worked for me in English after all.
The problem is...the Russian subtitles I find are based on the English version...what you read in cyrillic is not what they actually say... it doesn't matter as my reading skill for the moment is inexistant xD
So I was looking for another language, such as English or French to get an idea of what they're saying, but at the end, the majority is based on the original version. So even if I try to synchronize the subtitles, the synchronization doesn't last and I'm not sure the translation fits with the episode.
Aren't there any subtitles based on the Russian versions ?
If it's not possible to find some, I guess I'll buy them in Russia. Although it bothers me because I've already bought them in the past, it's a shame there are only English and French available on my DVDs...morever many TV shows I like are not fully dubbed : you still can hear the original voices with the Russians ones at the same time... I don't really want to buy a DVD like that...
I have to say I don't understand : all the TV shows I like to watch were more or less realized at the same time. But some are dubbed, some are not, some have some seasons that are and the next that aren't...
Thanks !

I know of several Russian movies that have Russian subtitles, and many Russian movies that have English subtitles.
Would that list be helpful? Personally, I don't like to watch English movies that have been dubbed into Russian, or
English movies that have Russian subtitles, so I can't help you with that.

Sure it'd be helpful, thanks !
Also if you know some Russian TV series, cause I prefer watching TV series, I don't watch a lot of movies in general.

You should try watching "Lost" with the Russian subtitles. The vocabulary is usually easy to follow (at least in English) and they don't speak that fast.
Maybe "Friends" as well? But that might be a little harder because of the slangs they use.

That's a good idea, don't know why I've never tried it before. Though I'll have to spend a lot of time watching an episode as I can only read russian very very slowly. Also I won't have the pronounciation of the Russian words.

At the end, I guess it doesn't exist. Subtitles exist for an original version. Lost, Friends, Desperate Housewives or 24 in Russian aren't the original versions. So I suppose it's normal I won't find a "translation of a translation".
The only alternative I've found out is to read the srt file at the same time. I have to say it's not really comfortable and you can't really enjoy the episode. I cannot use the srt directly in the video reader because it was meant to be synchronized according to the original version, no matter what language I use, so even if I synchronize it from the start, later there will be a delay.
Maybe I have to be more patient, after all, I've just started Russian, maybe in a year of study I'll be able to understand without subtitles. I hope so cause I remember it took me months to get rid of subtitles in English even after many years of study at school (or maybe I didn't feel confident enough to try sooner). On the other hand I've never used any subtitles for Italian and could understand a lot of thing from the beginning. Maybe that was just because of transparency.
