I stumbled on encyclopedic articles (.pdfs) in German containing sketches of Eastern European languages, extinct and not. They're done by scholars who are unfamiliar to me but browsing through a couple of them, I'm quite impressed and they are generally a cut above nominally similar articles on German Wikipedia which can get dragged down by "Randy in Boise" or politically-motivated garbage.
