First, sorry to post this, but my searching skills have failed me and I am just not finding what I was hoping to with the site's search function.

I am looking for a program to use for my seven year old to learn Vietnamese. I have some Vietnamese under my belt (not too bad at reading and speaking, but terrible at listening), but I am nowhere near fluent, and my accent is quite far from native.

I know there is Rosetta, which combines reading/speaking/listening, but can anyone recommend a program more geared to children that doesn't just teach words, but speaking/listening, reading and writing can come later and I can help with that.

What do you think about learning over Skype? I've seen several services offering language learning via Skype with native speakers in Viet Nam, but not sure how useful it would be for a child, especially for only 30 minutes a week.

Does your son want to learn Vietnamese? Since it's a heritage language, he might be able to remember surprisingly much but he might also have mixed feelings. I'd say it's a good idea to let him try some easy TV first and to have an initial Skype session. You'll see if it's a waste of time or not, and the Skype tutor will be able to assess his current level and suggest something.
