Such things happen to me every time I'm in Italy or Spain, since there are so many big Romanian immigrant communities over there.
In Slovenia, I was at an Internet Cafe. I overheard 3 Romanian guys that looked extremely suspicious (ripped clothes but shiny sunglasses, rings, etc) talking about credit card frauds, pickpocketting/theft, and other illegal stuff. They sounded extremely aggressive and seemed to have been doing these activities for quite a while. I'm sorry about not being a good citizen, but I had absolutely no intention to report them or anything like that - the moment they came in I made sure to close any web page that contained Romanian text, I logged off from everywhere and left as fast as I could. I have to say that their Romanian was quite codified in itself - but they happened to use a certain slang from an area where many of my friends come from though, so I had no problem understanding them. I have to say that if I hadn't heard them speaking Romanian, I would've never guessed that they were Romanians, since 2 of them actually looked middle-eastern - they were probably children of emigrants that emigrated themselves.
It was quite a surreal experience, and I was quite scared.
