I've been playing too much Mario Kart while I use Pimsleur, and it works fine. I don't think I've learned any language skill from it, but I try to identify and describe to myself what happens in the game in the target language. Now how do you say "Haunted House" in Cantonese?

When I was much younger, text based adventure games definately helped me learn some new words when I was growing up. But I don't know if foreign languages have any old PC textbased adventure games like Zork or Rogue.

Yes, they're called natives, you can see them and interact/have fun with them at the same time.
All the video games I plaid were focused on fun not on language learning.And I doubt you'll learn anything from a Japanese one for example.
