Just to say, On a website called tudou (poplar video sharing website, there are some Japanese anime, even the newest(!) ones get translated into Chinese! not by any professionals, they make subs right after Japanese release. For example recently aired anime called "freezing" was translated as "zero degree warrior princess" (it's a little silly animation by the way).
They do the same with foreign music bands too! 女神卡卡 = lady gaga (goddess Kaka) 金属乐队 - Metallica (metal music band) 鐵娘子樂團 - Iron Maiden (iron girl music band) 我的另類羅曼史 - My Chemical Romance (my different romance) 50 Cent, is still 50 cent, though. I hope they ban the use of English letters instead... that's the most irritating and bothersome problem I have in reading Chinese right now. I thought it was limited to forums online where you often see a string of characters with 2 letters in the middle which stand for the first two letters of the pinyin for the 2 chinese characters that make up the word -- and it can be really hard to guess as a non-native speaker... For example: "也可以与其他LY分享消息" Can you guess what the heck LY might be? 狼友. How about another extremely common one LZ? 楼主
Sometimes different letters entirely are used -- they use a U instead of a Y. In a printed novel that I started working on this week, just within a few pages I had to figure out: SY 声音 ZA 做爱 XA 性爱 etc. Edited by parasitius on 15 January 2011 at 4:44am 2 persons have voted this message useful |
