You are weird and out of the norm. And no one has ever gone down in history for being the
same as everyone else and being totally with the norm. I'd see it as a complement.
There's nothing wrong with being weird.

You could always spout of at her in Spanish or one of your other languages...it does not accomplish anything but it might be fun to see the look on her face. Coming from an "fake" supportive household I feel what you are going through. I am not saying spats help anything, but sometime you just need to let loose in order to cool off. I think it would be amusing to rant at someone in a language they don't understand at all; you can say what you want and they will not have a clue.

Disclaimer: I am probably giving bad advice here. You probably should not take my thoughts to heart.

I'm really sorry for you. Luckily, my parents are supporting me and wish me to do well in languages. You also have to look at the good results of learning a language. According to research, you'll be less likely to get alzheimer's, improve your memory (my own assumption), can get a wider variety of friends and can go more places than the average tourist. In fact, I really respect you. Don't give up.

Your parent think so strangely. In my country, when u can speak the second language, everyone will admire you. You can also earn money much more, find out a good job, You can also go out the world and adventure this world by the best confidence. Say to your parent those things. Nice to meet u

I can't remember if I've posted in this thread, but I just wanted to stop by again and congratulate you, Jordan, and
everyone else on this site for that matter, for choosing to study foreign languages. This is one of the most noble
pursuits any person can undertake. In fact, I've gained quite a bit of respect for myself by virtue of my multilingual
skills alone, moreso than my musical/mathematical talents since those seem to be more wide-spread.

I think my parents/siblings used to think that their son/brother is suffering from some kinda mental problem, spending so much money and time studying foreign languages, however, as time goes by (especially now that I am an adult), somehow, I found that they are actually proud of me :) Though they do ask me occassionally still, such as "do u mix up all these languages that u are learning?"

@ noriyuki_nomura: I'm sure that's what many of us have to go through too. Learning languages out of genuine
willingness is already a relatively rare hobby in itself, so I'm not surprised that so many of us can relate. Yet you and
all the rest of the users here continue to amaze me with how persistent you are!

P.S. I had no idea you were actually male. :p

Gosh! I really feel for you! What you should say to your parents is "what would you rather me do, study languages and add something intellegent to me or be on the streets at night looking for my next fix of drugs? "
