I was wondering where you'd gone... Although I haven't been so regular myself, lately. Anyway, I'm happy to see that you're not giving up. Although you shouldn't feel obligated to learn Russian because of us, we can still encourage each other even if we're not learning the same languages. It seems though, that I am the team's weakest link in Spanish. Even my comprehension is far from easy, and my production... well, let's not talk about it. Anyway, it's nice having people to support you and that you can support, whatever languages they're studying.
And I'll be happy to learn about your Catalan studies, as Catalonia (?) is pretty close to my place and I'm planning on learning it at some point.

It's good to hear from you! I too am glad that you aren't giving up, and your new schedule looks good. But this made me laugh:

I don't know if you caught my little crisis post, but this is just what was stopping me from dropping Russian! So I guess there's something to the TAC, after all. However, as Joanthemaid said, don't feel obligated to continue Russian if you don't want to. Really, as long as we're all encouraging each other, I think the languages are irrelevant. (And it appears any "pressure" we may have imagined would come from other teammates is, well, more imaginary than not. :)
And I'm only keeping Russian because it's not the language itself that's frustrating me, but rather the limited amount of time that I can study it actively (I just don't have three-hour blocks to sit down and get into the grammar the way I want to, so I have to rely on audio sources like Pimsleur, and learning through listening is the least effective method for me {although I hope it will help my pronunciation :)}). If I were in your situation, I would switch to Catalan too.
I too think Catalan is cool, and look forward to hearing about your adventures with it.

Thanks guys for being so understanding, but I am going to keep up with russian. I think the reason I was so frustrated with it was that in my head I thought I would have progressed much farther by now than I actually have. There was a disconnect between my expectations and my results. I think by not making Russian my priority right now I can still enjoy learning it and just spend this year learning at a slower pace. Besides, I'll have more time to study it in the future; it's not like I have to learn the entire language in one year.
For today, I spent an hour reading about the Portuguese Empire in Spanish. It was just a few articles about the founding of Brazil, the asian spice trade, and a little bit about Henry the Navigator. It's weird that I have little trouble reading history in Spanish, but if I try reading a newspaper my comprehension immediately goes down. Maybe there's just more cognates or something.
For Catalan, I finished Chapter 1 of Teach Yourself Catalan. Catalan Grammar and words are so easy in light of studying Spanish that I don't think it would be too hard to finish the Teach Yourself book in a month. I really like the sound of Catalan too because to me it sounds like a mix Spanish and French. It's fun anyways.
Tommorow I'm studying Russian. I am going to try out the Rosetta Stone course and see if it all that great. It's also great to hear that Bramsterdam is also doing so well in his Russian studies and that he has Russian friends. I have to say I am insanely jealous that you have real russian speakers to practice with. Good luck.

This is just a report from the last few days. I finished up more Spanish grammar from quick fix Spanish grammar. I've completed about a third of the book so far, so hopefully I finish the rest by the end of the month.
For Catalan, I spent more time listening to Els Teus Somnis, and working on word liaison.
My Russian consisted of more listening to music. I tried out the rosetta stone cd and it was okay, but I don't know how effective it will be. I'll see if much of it sticks over the next week.
Spanish -24.5 hours
Catalan-2.5 hours
Russian- 19 hours
