Long weekend with lots to try to drag me away from study. Saturday I didn't get as much
as I wanted in, but Sunday was a great day. I'm still out on my main computer, and
still in queue for the Pimsleur from the library, so I've been enjoying Germanpod101
over the last few days. I started from the beginning of the Newbie series, and even
though I'm not learning a ton of new things, I'm still learning new vocabulary, and
cultural aspects. Overall I'm really enjoying the series. I'll probably continue on it
along with MT and Pimsleur just for enjoyment sake if nothing else.
Saturday:
30 minutes of Anki
40 minutes of Germanpod101
Sunday:
20 minutes of focused vocabulary study. I'm trying out the 7 word list idea on some of
the words I'm having a hard time committing to memory.
40 minutes of Anki
60 minutes of watching a movie (Das Leben der Anderen) Had to stop half way in for a
previously planned party :(

Still moving forward! I've probably been studying a bit too much in terms of balancing
my time with other activities. I make video games for a living, so it doesn't leave me
a ton of free time outside of work, and with my wife on her spring break I'll be
spending more of that free time with her :) Once she's back in school, I should be back
up to 2.5+ hours a day though. The walk to work helps a lot as it allows for 70 minutes
of audio time per day. I've also started getting up earlier as that gives me 30-60
minutes of study time. I'm really loving the language still, and having a blast
learning it.
Thinking of getting a couple of die Drei ??? books for my steps into reading. I figure
they'll be way over my head to begin with, but I'm assuming that I'll start seeing the
same words a lot and should get better at it as I go. I need to order the Assimil book
from Amazon.de anyways (US amazon is sold out), so I can just add them to the order and
eat the international shipping cost just once.
Monday:
30 minutes of Anki
60 minutes finishing the movie (Das Leben der Anderen)
30 minutes of Germanpod101
Tuesday:
70 minutes of MT
20 minutes of Anki
30 minutes of Germanpod101

Another busy day and into the night making video games. Luckily I woke up early
yesterday and got some extra studying done to keep up! Today should be a good day for
study as well, unless the plans for this evening change.
Yesterday was a good bit of MT. I finished CD 4 and listened through CD 5. There near
the end of 5 he just kept adding in new words. My instinct tells me to listen to it
again at the least, and I really want to make vocabulary cards for Anki out of all the
new words, but I'll follow his instructions and not do any of the above. I'm assuming
they will be repeated enough to stick in the long run. So following this, I'll be
moving on to CD 6 today :)
I'm also trying to simply listen to more German, even though I don't understand 98% of
it. I figure it can't hurt to get used to hearing the language. I won't be listing this
under my times, but I'm spending a lot of time with NDR streaming tv in the background
on my computer as well. Maybe it'll help!
Mittwoch:
55 minutes of MT.
20 minutes on Anki.
30 minutes non-Anki vocabulary review.
Donnerstag:
120 minutes of MT.
10 minutes of Anki.

Easter weekend fun with my wife. Less time on German than I had hoped, though I did
watch Abenteuer mit der Tarnkappe which was awesome and odd, even if I only understood
a word here and there.
I also restart my classes tonight, which I'm really looking forward to. It'll be
interesting to see what I've forgotten, and what I've learned new. I've continued to
study since the class, though I've studied using MT and Pimsleur, so very different
than what the teacher covers. Should be a lot of fun :D
Freitag:
15 minutes MT
50 minutes Anki
66 minutes Abenteurer mid der Tarnkappe
Samstag:
60 minutes Anki
Sonntag:
75 minutes Anki

Well day one of class complete! There are 6 people total in the class, 3 at around my
current level, 1 much higher than me, and 1 was absent. I remembered most things after
the initial bit of dust was knocked off my memory. I had a bit of trouble coming up
with answers to questions that the others were having no problems with. Then again,
they finished their last quarter of German last Wednesday, whereas mine was 9 months
ago. Hoping to catch up quickly and then use the syllabus to stay at least 1 lesson
ahead in terms of studying.
I also finally found the book for Assimil German with Ease in the US. I've ordered
that, and hopefully it matches up with the audio cd's I got from the library. I've also
ordered 2 books from Die Drei Fragezeichen series. I used to love these in English as a
kid, and just found out that they were way more popular in Germany. So, taking Pyx's
advice here and going to jump into some reading :)
Montag:
90 minutes of German 102 class
45 minutes of MT
70 minutes of Anki review (mainly everything covered in class)

Not much of interest yesterday. I was able to translate a bit of text that a friend
wrote, which I could not have done a month ago. Progress is visible already! I've also
started poking a bit at the dativ case, and MT has started some past tense on his "handle
words". Still having a blast, and will be going to day two of the class today.
Dienstag:
20 minutes of Class homework/study.
125 minutes of MT (I love that 70 minute roundtrip walk to work ;) )
55 minutes of Anki (mainly class review)

Yesterday was a great day for my German study. I had a hour and a half set aside as a 2
person lesson with my teacher to try to catch up with the class, but the other guy
didn't show up, so it ended up being 1 on 1. We also realized that I was already more
or less caught up with the class, so it had 1.5 hours of open time to ask any questions
I had and review anything I had come up with. Was really great! I got to go over prefix
verbs and even review some dativ stuff before she officially teaches it to us. She also
gave me some pages in the textbook to read over that she said she wouldn't be hitting
this quarter, but that would help me with my readings of die drei fragezeichen once
they come in. She was also interested in the books and asked to see them once I got
them in. Great use of time and I really feel like I got a ton accomplished. I wish I
had 1.5 hours of 1 on 1 face time with a native speaker every week :p
After that I had my normal class, which went much more smoothly than Monday. I have a
feeling that it will feel a bit slow, but it's also a guaranteed 3 hours a week of
verbal practice, with a German native that will correct all mistakes. I'm happy with
that.
Mittwoch:
180 minutes of class time (90 1 on 1, 90 full class)
60 minutes of MT
20 minutes of Anki

Finished MT Foundations course yesterday! I started the Foundation Review course for my
walk home, and was pleasantly surprised with how well everything stuck in my head. I
really like the course quite a bit. My only problem so far was with the last lesson or
two on Foundation, where it felt like he ran out of time and crammed in a ton of things
all at once. I'll see how he handles that on the review session. Maybe those words all
get hit in the Advanced bit. The rest of yesterday was a bit lacklust as I had to spend
the rest of the evening doing taxes. Still! very excited about finishing Foundation,
and looking forward to seeing what's in Advanced.
Still no sign of Assimil book, or my Die Drei Fragezeichen books. They should start
showing up over the next few weeks.
Donnerstag:
70 minutes MT (Foundation course finished, Foundation Review course started)
30 minutes Anki (reviews only, no new words)
