MT French I love. I feel like i have come such a long way in 2 hours, considering i have never as so much uttered a sentance in french, apart from the obligatory, will you sleep with me tonight lol.

I am concerned that I am not learning to read or write but I will stick with the foundation and advanced course and once completed will progress to Assimil.

My accent also sucks big time, but I am undeterred as I have only been learning for around 4 hours so patience is key. I must confess this is all very exciting.

How do I attain the perfect accent??

I think completing Michel Thomas and then moving onto Assiml would be a fantastic idea. I think it would be good to make a second or third pass of MT foundation course as well.

Move onto the advanced MT course afterwards. The first one is very good but his teaching method is divine in the advanced course. I think he got a good reaction to his foundation course and really thought about how he would go about teaching the more advanced grammar.

You will learn the past tense, imperfect tense, future tense and the conditional tense. In addition you will learn how to conjugate more irregular verbs. The most important thing is you will enjoy it.

Bonne chance!

(edit) As a side note he goes on to explain the concept of the subjunctive tense. Don't get stressed out about it. It's really hard.

It would be worth taking a look at Pimsleur French - I find the courses too slow for language learning but they are good for acquiring a decent accent (not necessarily perfect) particularly before you get too far in your learning (because then using the course will really frustrate you). It would be worth checking your local library - UK ones often have some Pimsleur courses. I've been using the Dutch course in the car to and from work and I'm quite pleased with progress so far.

Alternatively, the following may be of some use:

Pronounce it Perfectly in French

The Spanish one is excellent. Perhaps someone who has this one can comment

Andy.

I'm so glad someone rates "Pronounce it Perfectly in Spanish", as I ordered it over the Internet only this week. Remind me in a month's time, and I'll let you know how I got on with it. ;)

I've just found this mentioned on another thread:

Introduction to French Phonology

From the blurb:

The Introduction to French Phonology course provides additional drills for those who wish to sound like a native speaker of the language. The course may be used beneficially at any stage of learning the language. It is invaluable for those who are already masters of the language but who wish to speak it better.

I'm now downloading it myself.

Andy.

P.S. Note to self: It pays to go back and check the FSI Language Courses site more often.
