I came across a website a few years ago that stated reading is a great way to facilitate listening comprehenison. It stated that it trains your brain to parse the language which is the reason your listening comprehension will improve. I'm just curious to know if anyone has experienced this through reading? Reading helps because:
1) you learn new words 2) you'll have an idea how they're supposed to be pronounced 3) then you'll eventually hear the words when watching TV/a movie/the radio/a podcast/a song/something and Honestly, my listening comprehension has gone up alongside my reading comprehension. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I do think there is a link between reading and listening comprehension. In my experience of learning Arabic I have noticed that my listening and reading comprehension seem to improve almost exactly in parallel with each other.
However, I would prefer to put the emphasis the other way round, i.e. I think listening improves reading more than reading improves listening. This is because with listening you are always getting a consistent and accurate input, whereas with reading, you might not be pronouncing the words (in your head) consistenly or accurately, which will make it harder to learn. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

I believe all four skills reinforce eachother. I remember linguamor making several statements of the "the best way to
improve skill x is by using skill y" sort. She stated it as if they were well known among linguists. Could someone re- state these? 1 person has voted this message useful |
