I realize i'm very lucky. If my job and it's products weren't so specific, with such limited vocabulary going back and forth, learning chinese for the job would take forever. :).

So i'm still around, but finishing up a Poli-sci class, and in fact should be writing a term paper right about now. Eep! So, sadly, i haven't had much time for Chinese. But oddly enough, our numbers of chinese clients have dropped a bit. Hmmm. figures. :P. Although i did have a $4,500 sale to 2 women from china with limited English that came back to see me. $4,500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In face cream and face serum. no, i'm not kidding.

I've only learned a few more words, like face scrub and handsome, etc, lol. and i had and a fleeting moment in the chinese gang, which was such a proud moment for me.

At my place of employment, there is generally a Spanish cliq. Since 30% or more people speak Spanish where i work, when they talk to each other they all speak Spanish to each other, even when people are standing right with them that don't speak Spanish, which is i guess rude, but since i'm so over their being like that now, and since people at my job are generally not intellectual in the least, or even share any of my interests, i really don't give a crap what they're saying...no, really. (do i sound bitter? lol)

But one day a chinese employee in my store, jennifer, wanted to buy our product and said she would shop with me because i am learning chinese "and that is good", so she sent her co-worker mary (also chinese) to pick it up from me (her friend rings it up and gets the commission). The 2nd woman, mary, usually works with someone at my counter, peggy, and peggy gets credit for "selling" it(yeah, silly, but that's how it goes) but jennifer told mary she had to go to me, :D, (peggy was quite confused, :D) So either way, that was my little moment in the chinese gang.

THEN! and this just the other day, the person who helps me learn chinese, Ling, came over with a client, and he was really cute, so i said to her while he was standing there 'ta shi piang liang' (he's pretty, lol, that's all i knew) and she nodded and smiled, and corrected me ("ta hen sui", okay, something like that, i don't know the spelling of the handsome, but sounds like the swi in swine flu). So that was really cool. Because it's one of those languages you can pretty much bet the other person your speaking about doesn't speak, but Spanish quite another story. So that was pretty awesome. He left and she said "and he's just my type, hot and carries a black amex" lol. lol.

So far, all those 3 chinese people mentioned, are pretty much the only chinese people on my floor, out of about 150+ employees there.

So i am still on the waiting list for the pimsleur but got another chinese set of cd's from the library that i am currently ripping to my computer. Can't wait til my term paper is done, 10 days IF he gives me an extension, i'm so nervous to ask for one, but we shall see. Still loving speaking chinese, haven't gotten tired of it yet, which is the fear.

Wow I love your log :D Yay you are doing really well and it sounds like a lot of fun! You really made me laugh, hehehe :)

Also if you ever have more spare time for a day or two I definitely recommend watching a Chinese or Taiwanese drama, it's a great way to get accustomed to the sounds while enjoying yourself. My favourite so far is "Mars" 戰神 aka Zhan Shen, though I'm sure your Chinese clique can rec (and loan) you something awesome too. With subtitles hopefully!

Keep us updated XD
Good luck / Zhu4 ni3 hao3 yun4!

I love chinese drama! I have 2 of my favorite chinese movies in my house: To Live, and Farewell my Concubine. I made the mistake of trying to watch 'to live' last month and was almost in hysterical tears half way through, fortunately i had to leave the house and go to the dentist. lol. I love Gong Li and have seen several of her movies, she's so amazing. I loved Leslie Cheung so much. What a total heartbreak when he killed himself. saddest thing ever. He was so beautiful. :(. WHY LESLIE, WHY!!!

I love this log. It is so interesting. I think it's so cool how you use the language in active situations. That's how you really become fluent. Just keep going along with learning a few words a day, and you'll be able to have a nice conversation before you know it. I'm following this log, IT'S SO AWESOME!

PS Learning a few words a day is better, because it's so much easier and you remember them so much better. Keep learning even after the products list is done, it's a good investment. And your workplace would be STUPID to let you go.
