I love chinese drama! I have 2 of my favorite chinese movies in my house: To Live, and Farewell my Concubine. I made the mistake of trying to watch 'to live' last month and was almost in hysterical tears half way through, fortunately i had to leave the house and go to the dentist. lol. I love Gong Li and have seen several of her movies, she's so amazing. I loved Leslie Cheung so much. What a total heartbreak when he killed himself. saddest thing ever. He was so beautiful. :(. WHY LESLIE, WHY!!! |

The word for "handsome" is 帅 shuài.
Good luck with your Chinese. I am super-jealous that you actually get the opportunity to talk to Chinese speakers on a regular basis. There aren't too many around here.

:(. Booooo. My friend Ling who was helping me with Mandarin, is leaving to go back to China. She got a good opportunity, and she's going back. I am so sad, she was really cool, and the only person i knew who spoke really good chinese. She was fun to talk to in any language. Lame. :(.
I did maybe meet another person, today someone in from another line called me over, she was telling 2 chinese clients that my brand was the best, I picked them up and walked them over to my line. They only spoke chinese, : ), so the conversation was fun.
Also, several people got let go from my floor today, people are very nervous. So i plan on learning as fast as i can. I didn't finish my term paper in my poli-sci class, so if i get an extension i'll still have to wait a week before more chinese, but if no extension, i'm going to learn as much mandarin as i can immediately, because supposedly in january there are going to be more "changes" at my work. We shall see. wow. This economy is really something. I really think chinese is the key.

Still around, still learning. : ).
Finished my poli-sci class, which means I can get into my Mandarin learning. My friend Ling will be leaving in a few days, I should have another lesson with her, but I have been to lazy to set one up. Hopefully i will see her tmrw at work.
At work i have been using chinese with chinese clients, they appreciate it. :). a co-worker was getting nasty with me in the middle of my having a transaction with about 5 chinese people, let me tell you, they were ready to box her ears. :D. And i told her so too. lol. That was awesome. One woman was all: "she give you problem", etc. Awesome. :D.
I've been hanging out on livemocha.com today doing Mandarin lessons, love that site. Just as good as Rosetta stone but free, and actually, a bit better than RS imo. Rosetta stone sucks. ;).
My 60 days is over as far as from when i started my initial goal, but since I haven't had time to study due to Poli-Sci, I am giving myself another 30 days to go for it in earnest as a goal. I ordered Fluenz so I could try it out, not knowing what it was was doing my head in, so i had to order, but i'm pretty sure I will return because $323 is alot, and after buying rosetta stone for about the same, not sure I can handle it. If it were superawesomeamazing, that would be one thing, but so far, although quite good, I tihnk i can get just as much out of Live Mocha. We shall see.
I met a cute chinese guy who was buying something for "a friend", but he lives in Canada and i live in nyc. *sigh* Very cute, and very nice. But he's in the city every week, so i told him to stop in again. hmmm.
On wards and upwards. today i learned comparatives, or whatever they're called. (too.., ...-er) Very useful.

Got my first language exchange partner from Conversationexchange.com, we met up yesterday, it was great. And what a great new york or language story. We met up and ended up in Irish bar to sit down and talk (because i couldn't find the coffee shop i was taking us too), we both had guiness, i helped him with how to order from the bartender and he ordered, it was cute, "i would like to" and forgot the word guiness. We sat down at a table and talked about what we both wanted, he just wants help talking, his English is pretty good, and of course, i just need help with very basic stuff. He is very nice and cool.
Our bus boy came over, and he was Chinese! lol. I told him xiexie, he laughed and said "how did you know i'm chinese". Then our waitress came over, and her English was not very good, she spoke Spanish, she asked me was i learning chinese, i said yes, she said "i know some" and counted to 3 in chinese. :D. She said Chinese is hard and i told her Spanish was harder, she said she would help me with my Spanish and only spoke to me in Spanish. Funny. I told her in Spanish if she has children they should learn chinese because the chinese have all the money now and obama sucks (sry guys, lol) and that the u.s. would be poor soon, lol. She laughed and asked me how to tell the bus boy he was ugly, because he teases her and says "you're pretty...pretty ugly" lol! By this point my new partner had gone, had to go, i told her how to tell him he stinks in chinese and when he came over she told him so. He surprised and was laughing. It was the funniest scene. Very cool.
Anyway, I taught my partner how to say his L's that were next to consonants and we used a tiny bit of chinese but he had to go and we will meet up next week for a couple of hours. sry for the long story, but i thought it was so cool, only in new york (okay, probably a few other places as well) : )

-This is a new product (zhege xin chinpin de)?
