So far today, I have completed the following Anki reviews:

German: 109 cards in 19 minutes
Spanish: 82 cards in 9 minutes
Esperanto: 119 cards in 12 minutes

I've also finished chapter 8 of Teach Yourself Esperanto and started on chapter 9. Specifically, I'm on page 82 of 150, so slightly more than halfway done. Up til now, I've been moving through this book very quickly, because most of the information was stuff I had already learned from other sources. I think I'm reaching the end of that review phase, though, as chapter 9 seems to have a good bit of information I haven't seen before. Anyway, with the additional vocabulary and sample sentences I've entered into Anki, I'm up to 1842 cards in that deck.

German and Spanish will come later this evening.

Update:

Well, I didn't do as much as I had planned, but I am up to page 53 in "German for Reading", having added 101 new cards to that Anki deck since my initial update.

I didn't study any Spanish, though.

So my goals for today will be to finish chapter 4 in "German for Reading". That will "only" involve learning the past tense of haben, sein and werden, doing 34 more example sentences, and reading the reading selection at the end of the chapter. That is a full page essay about German culture.

Then for Spanish, I want to complete the next two sections in chapter 7 of "Spanish for Reading". That will take me up to page 157 in that book (out of about 330), and will cover the imperfect tense, present participles and the present progressive tense. It also covers about 55 example sentences and whatever amount of new vocabulary is introduced in them.

Well, I've completed my Anki reviews for the day. Here are the stats:

German: 146 cards reviewed in 27 minutes. Total cards in deck: 990
Spanish: 134 cards reviewed in 14 minutes. Total cards in deck: 2040
Esperanto: 189 cards reviewed in 15 minutes. Total cards in deck: 1842

So later on this evening, I'll cover the new material I mentioned I mentioned in my last post.

Well, I only accomplished half of my goals from yesterday. It took longer to prepare a dish for an office Christmas party than I thought it would, so I was left with only enough time to study the Spanish material I had planned. The Christmas party is tonight, so I know I won't get anything accomplished then. So tomorrow I will pick up with the German material I mentioned above.

Anyway, here are the stats for the Anki reviews I've done today:

German: 157 cards reviewed in 17 minutes: Total cards in deck 990
Spanish: 280 cards reviewed in 38 minutes: Total cards in deck 2198
Esperanto: 261 cards reviewed in 22 minutes: Total cards in deck 1854

Well, the Christmas party went well, and I'm back to studying. So far, I 've completed my Anki reviews for the day. Here are those stats.

German: 60 cards reviewed in 12 minutes: 990 cards in deck
Spanish: 309 cards reviewed in 48 minutes: 2249 cards in deck
Esperanto: 239 cards reviewed in 19 minutes: 1854 cards in deck

Now, I am off to finish up chapter 4 in "German for Reading". That will complete the goal I had set a couple of days ago. Then, I will have to set new goals for all three languages.

Here are today's Anki review stats:

German: 282 cards reviewed in 39 minutes: 1086 cards in deck
Spanish: 348 cards reviewed in 49 minutes: 2280 cards in deck
Esperanto: 314 cards reviewed in 36 minutes: 1862 cards in deck

I did not get a very good night's sleep last night and felt like I was struggling with my reviews today. My recall was much slower than usual. Not fun.

Anyway, tonight I am going to re-read the reading selections at the end of the most recent chapters I've completed in both my German and Spanish textbooks, and I'm going to proceed with chapter 9 in Teach Yourself Esperanto.

I think I'm doing well in Spanish, but I want to re-read that essay to try to cement in my mind the differences between the imperfect and the present progressive tenses. They gave me a little trouble the first time around, but my Anki reviews today contained a lot of drills for those tenses, and I think I may have it down now.

The German essay is freaking me out a little. I can read it, but with a lot of difficulty, mostly because the sentence structure seems much more complex than the examples covered within the chapter. For instance, here is the first sentence from the essay:

"Wenn wir von deutschen Dichtern, Künstlern, Philosophen, Wissenschaftlern, Komponisten und Theologen sprechen, meinen wir nicht nur die, die aus Deutschland stammen, sondern auch die, die Deutsch als Muttersprache sprechen."

I think that translates as:

"If we speak of German poets, artists, philosophers, scientists, composers and theologians, we mean not only those who come from Germany, but also those who speak German as a mother-tongue."

The things I am not certain about in that sentence are the word order of "meinen wir", and the use of "die, die".

"Meinen wir" seems more question-like to me, I would have expected to see it the other way around. If you made this into two sentences - "Who do we mean? We mean not only those who...", I would have expected that second sentence to start "Wir meinen nicht nur...". But German sentence structure often seems to me like English turned inside out, so I guess I'll get used to it.

And I am guessing that "die, die" is similar to the "tiuj, kiuj" construction in Esperanto, mainly because in that first usage they don't seem to "attach" to any noun the way a simple article would. It seems like an self-standing phrase.

Well, all will become clear with more study, so I'm off.

I'm not entirely sure why, but that word order just feels right to me. I think the reasoning is that it's one of the situations where there's something else at the start of the sentence, and the verb has to stay in the 2nd position. Think of how it would be if you changed that whole big front thing from "wenn wir von blah blah blah" into just "jetzt". ---> "Jetzt meinen wir blah blah blah".

and yes, the "die, die" thing is just like the part of the English translation that says "those who". Imagine changing it slightly to have ", meinen wir nicht nur die Leute, die aus Deutschland stammen,". Does that make any more sense?

disclaimer: I could be wrong with my examples, ask a native speaker if you really want to know ;)

Thanks, Doviende. That did help. And after reading through the essay a few more times, it is falling into place.

Here are my Anki stats for today:

German: 168 cards reviewed in 21 minutes: 1095 cards in deck
Spanish: 185 cards reviewed in 27 minutes: 2280 cards in deck
Esperanto: 218 cards reviewed in 20 minutes: 1961 cards in deck

I'm about half-way through chapter 9 in Teach Yourself Esperanto. I'll try to finish that chapter tonight.

Also, I've added another challenge. I was reading one of those "How far will Assimil take you" threads, and saw Fanatic advocate blasting through the first phase as quickly as possible before reviewing it a second time at a more leisurely pace. That sounded like fun, so I decided to see how fast I can make it through the first phase of Assimil German With Ease.

So, today I completed the first 6 lessons (the 7th is a review), so that's one week of lessons in a single day. Aside from a handful of vocabulary, there was nothing that I hadn't already covered in the German for Reading book. I'm surprised to say it, but the actors are reading almost painfully slowly so far. I assume/hope they will pick up the pace to something more natural?

Anyway, I want to keep my main focus on the textbooks I've been using, so if I start feeling burned out at any point, the Assimil would be what I cut back on. But it has been a fun diversion so far.
