I have decided that after I complete the Heisig books, I will study Chinese and Japanese on alternate days. For now, I'll study them both every day, because I like to compare the characters side-by-side to figure out the differences, but later on I think it will help my concentration to focus on just one Asian language per day.
Today, I won't be learning any new characters. I just went through a couple hundred characters pretty fast, and I need a day to review and practice.

Good luck for your TAC 2010! I will keep an eye on your log, this seems to be interesting here. It may happen that I dont react in English but in one of your target languages.

That would be great! I can't promise that my skills in the target language will be good enough to make a coherent response, but my philosophy is "the more input, the better". Thanks for following my log. :)

Mandarin & Japanese:
- practiced characters on Skritter & Remembering the Kanji websites
Spanish:
- read Chapter 2 of Soy ateo
Could have been more productive today. Will try harder next time.
My Spanish is all coming back to me. I made it through a whole chapter of my book without looking anything up, and though I didn't understand every word, I understood the general meaning of every sentence, and did so with a decent reading speed.

Mandarin: did part of Lesson 22 of Remembering Simplified Hanzi (69 characters), practiced on Skritter
listened to an episode of ChinesePod (Getting Taller Not Fatter)
Japanese: did part of Lesson 23 of Remembering the Kanji (80 characters), practiced on Skritter
This is a really long lesson...I'll finish it tomorrow.
Spanish: read Chapter 1 of Soy Ateo by Gustavo Adolfo Lanza Ordóñez
listened to two episodes of SpanishPod ("Labios compartidos" - Mana and El español y el árabe)
I haven't really practiced my Spanish much since taking it in high school, but the language is still pretty transparent. Although I find myself looking up a few key words per page, I'm maintaining a decent reading speed. |

Several factors came together to hinder my progress today. I had to work this morning, then I had company this afternoon, then I took a badly needed nap. But since then, I've managed to get to all my languages for the day at least a little bit. I will more than make up for the lost study time, as I have the next four days off of work.
Mandarin:
-listened to an episode of ChinesePod (Foot Therapy)
Japanese:
-learned 33 characters from Lesson 25 of Remembering the Kanji, practiced on Skritter and Reviewing the Kanji
German:
-listened...well, listening...to Deutsche Welle radio

Mandarin:
-listened to an episode of ChinesePod (Qing Wen - 舍不得)
-practiced characters on Skritter
Japanese:
-practiced characters on Skritter
I felt another day was necessary to review the huge number of newly learned characters. Tomorrow I will soldier on with Lesson 24/25.
French:
-read some of Il était une fois nos ancêtres
-listened to a French news broadcast from NHK World

Mandarin:
-listened to an episode of ChinesePod (What's your animal sign?)
-did Lesson 24 of Remembering Simplified Hanzi (59 characters), practiced on Skritter
Japanese:
-finished Lesson 25 of Remembering the Kanji (63 characters), practiced on Skritter and Reviewing the Kanji
Spanish:
-listened to two episodes of SpanishPod (La Candelaria and King's Cake)
I passed the halfway point in Remembering Simplified Hanzi! And I'll be passing the halfway point in Remembering the Kanji in two days! I'm amazed at how fast you can learn the characters with this method.
I'm starting to think about making changes to my schedule, but I'm not sure yet. For now I will stick to what I've been doing.

FR: Moi, je n'ai pas l'argent pour "les Pods" comme SpanishPod, FrenchPod, mais en ce moment-là je suis malade et pour cela je dois faire quelque chose utile au lit. Qu'est-ce que je fais? Je lis quelques "Easy Readers" en français que j'ai acheté en 1998(!!) et que j'ai pas encore lu. Par example "Tistou - les pouces verts" de Maurice Druon me plaît. Donc aujourd'hui je vais continuer ma lecture...
