Le service FrenchPod101 (aussi bien que SpanishPod101, ItalianPod101, etc.) est similaire et gratuit, mais je n'ai pas assez d'experience avec ce site pour savoir s'il est aussi de haute qualité.

Pourquoi pas écouter la radio française ? Je recommande France Inter, mais il y a plusieures bonnes stations sur le Web. Il existe aussi des excellents podcasts gratuits en français. Mon favori est Ciel et Espace Radio, qui traite de l'astronomie.

January 10:

Mandarin:

-did Lesson 25 of Remembering Simplified Hanzi (31 characters), practiced on Skritter

Japanese:
-did Lesson 26 of Remembering the Kanji (59 characters), practiced on Skritter and Reviewing the Kanji

Since the characters are taking up hours of study time every day, I think I'll just focus on Mandarin and Japanese until I've made it through both books. I'm not giving up on German, French and Spanish, and I'm sure I'll find things to do for them here and there, but for the next month or two I'm not obliging myself to do any work with them. When I do take them back up, I'll work on a two-language-per-day schedule. The first language will alternate between Mandarin and Japanese, and the second language will alternate between German, French and Spanish. This should allow me to focus more on each language as I'm studying it, rather than constantly worrying about moving onto the next language for the day. I feel three languages per day is making me rush more than I want to, and it's making things difficult on days when I also have non-language-related things to accomplish.

"taking up hours of study time every day" > That's one of the main reasons, why I don't learn Asian languages. All my other languages would suffer enormously, if I only learned ONE of such languages.

But in your case it's a good descision to concentrate on learning the scripts first. Later you can integrate your other three target languages. Good luck!

Oui, j'écoute ce genre de podcast pour améliorer ma compréhension de la langue parlée. Je ne comprends pas chaque mot, mais comme l'astronomie est un sujet qui m'intéresse beaucoup, j'ai la motivation de surveiller chaque phrase et de comprendre tout ce que je peux. J'espère que tu l'aimeras aussi!

Yes, it is true that Mandarin and Japanese take a lot of time, but I am so thoroughly in love with these languages that I could not bear to not study them. Plus, I'm the kind of person who really enjoys a challenge, so for me it's worth it. :)

Mandarin:

-did Lesson 26 of Remembering Simplified Hanzi (59 characters), practiced on Skritter
-listened to an episode of ChinesePod (Calling an Ambulance)

Japanese:
-did Lesson 27 of Remembering the Kanji (76 characters), practiced on Skritter and on Reviewing the Kanji

There are a couple reasons I'm especially happy about completing today's character lessons. Firstly, I passed the 1,000 character mark and the halfway point in the Japanese Kanji book! And secondly, there are no more lessons as long as today's lesson! It's all downhill from here, and I should be done in about a month at this pace.

Hello, Levi! I just wanted to say keep up the good work--it's very encouraging.

P.S. I like your new profile graphic.

Mandarin:
did Lesson 27 of Remembering Simplified Hanzi (21 characters)

Japanese: did Lesson 28 of Remembering the Kanji (18 characters)

Man, am I glad the lessons were this short! After a stressful night at work, and preparing to get up bright and early tomorrow to go back to work, I was about to just skip today's characters. But I saw how short the lessons were and trudged through them. Hopefully I'll have more energy tomorrow.

Thanks! In case you're wondering, the graphic is my Chinese name, which was given to me by my Chinese professor in college. It's pronounced Lìwěi. The first character means "power" and the second character means "great".
