Welp here it is folks. I'm going to try and learn as much Italian as possible in 100 days (starting today, March 1st, 2010.)
My plan:
Assimil: Italian With Ease
Berlitz: Self Teacher Italian (40 lessons, one every 2 days)
Reading the newspaper/speaking with kids at school
25 new words a day (out of my most common usage dictionary)
This will give me working grammar of the basic tenses: Past, Present, Future, Imperfect, Past Perfect, Progressive etc.
A vocabulary of around 3500 to 4000 words
And an ability to talk and communicate with comfort with common topics, basic necessities, and basic literacy.
I AM NOT GOING FOR NATIVE FLUENCY IN 3 MONTHS.
Here are some examples of what I should be able to do
-Describe things
-Greet people (slang and formal)
-Talk about hobbies, TV, music, etc
-Read the paper (help of a dictionary :D)
-Talk about what I did yesterday, what I will do tomorrow, etc.
-Some slang, colloquialisms, idioms.
-Count :D
-Use reflexive verbs correctly.
-Directions
-Parts of a car, road signs, getting gas etc.
-Ordering food :D (my favorite :D)
-Household Items
-Weather
-Going places
Questionables:
Discuss politics?
Do math (CALCULUS WOO :D) mathematical terms like squares and stuff
Tell a story!
Conversation on the fly!
Translate (a little :D)
Honestly, I'm really excited, it's currently 10:00pm, and I'm really happy with Day 1's progress. I put in a good hour of study so far, and still have a little to go.
Should I study for my college biology test tomorrow or study Italian? hmmmmmmmm......
:D

She said I have a pretty good accent!! Not bad for day two huh? :)
I should progress really quickly. I'm even more excited. :)

Good luck! I'm sure you'll manage it. I hope to try the same challenge with Italian some day.

Day 3- I'm learning much more colloquial stuff, like how teens my age would speak.
Ultimately, it is becoming very easy and making sense to me.
folte = Cool! :D
Bultati in una strada. (Iolanda said this to me today :P) She has quite a personality! We laugh at everything together.
She said she would be more than happy to help me and answer questions :)

How will you reach 4000 words at a rate of 25 a day for 100 days?

Random words that I will pick up from Assimil+Berlitz, and talking with Italian friends. So I will technically learn much more than 2500 words out of the dictionary

How is the Italian going? The month is almost over. I've learned to talk about the White Rose in German more
fluently this month and that's about it. :/
