oh i already feel pretty intimidated! How am i going to do this?
My goal is to reach advanced fluency in Italian, right now i am (i guess) in the intermediate stage. I started studying Italian last summer in June and stopped it in October after completing the "Tell me more Italian" Software course. I was able to complete level 1 and 2 of the Pimsleur course but haven't continued yet. So between last October and now there is a huge gap in my language progress which i am trying to cover now. I think i should add that my boyfriend is Italian but we are mainly talking in English to each other (which i know is not very beneficial) a couple of times a day i throw him an Italian phrase and he responds but i haven't found the courage yet to dive deeper into it and speak Italian the whole day. You can imagine that the amount of expired vocabulary was quite discouraging after months of neglect. Right now i have about 1500 words in my flash cards, i primarily fed them with words from the language course and from articles i read. Now i am pondering about which method to use next...i will have to complete my audio course and translate some more articles and then? Podcasts? Comics? Songs? Rosetta Stone?? I would like to record my progress thats why i started this log, hopefully this commitment will prevent me to run for the hills once more. I highly recommend keeping track of your activity, it helps you remember the big picture in the daily life. I not so highly recommend my old log from which you may or may not extract something useful.
I'm intermediate myself and I would recommend using native materials as soon as you're able to. Tv, books, it's good stuff. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

You are absolutely right, thats one of the reasons i liked my software course so much, it kept scheduling my lessons by letting me set a deadline and tracked my progress. I guess i should start from scratch again cause i sometimes skipped the boring grammar notes and went directly on to the exercises. My mistake! But i am too lazy to start it all over again with the same content. I want to experience something new! Today i changed the language of my PC game the Sims2 from English to Italian. I hope this will add some thrill to my gaming sessions. :)) Thank you very much for the link to your log. Its always refreshing to meet people who study the same language. I have learned 16 new words from reading the Italian edition of Cosmopolitan.
I repeated over 100 words. I watched an interview on a podcast and hardly understood anything. I watched a podcast about the basic words and phrases regarding dining. I read an article to my partner and discovered that i have problems pronouncing s and z correctly. Results of my Italian verb conjugation: Presente Indicativo verbi regolari + irregolari 20 verbs Score: 85% Corrections: Attrarre: tu attrai Cogliere: io colgo loro colgono Passato prossimo Indicativo verbi regolari + irregolari 20 verbs Score 80% Corrections: siete partiti ha compreso ho chiesto è comparso 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I have listened to the first two Pimsleur lessons of Unit 3.
I have learned 34 new words. I have repeated a bunch of forgotten and expired words. I read aloud to my partner and got his compliments. Still i didn't understand anything while reading out loud. My brain is still too busy with the right pronunciation. If i read by myself i will normally understand 20 - 50% of the text. I am pretty tired. My flashcard program messed up and many of the cards i had learned expired or went into the unlearned deck. It drove me crazy! Ora ho bisogno di un po' di riposo! This looked suspicious to me so I looked it up. I don't think riposta is a word, I think you would rather say "ora ho bisogno di riposo". 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

- Learned 37 new words from an article in a magazine. - Repeated over 100 expired and forgotten cards. - Listened to Pimsleur 3 e2 and e3 20 March 2010 - Repeated a few expired cards. - Read two short articles "Povera Italia" and "Italia maschilista" understood about 80 % of it and extracted the unknown words. - Learned 37 new words. - Decided to try sentence mining with SRS. I will translate the sentences from English to Italian to develop my comprehension and writing skills at the same time. Its mainly a grammar tool, i will only use it with already known words. - Read aloud and got plenty of pronunciation corrections but still got a B rating. - Listened to Matia Bazar's songs Edited by Netgirl on 20 March 2010 at 5:55pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
