French Assimil: Lesson 23
Japanese Assimil: Lesson 26

French Assimil: Lesson 24
Japanese Assimil: Lesson 27
Grammar: Jpod101 Newbie S2-E10 and 11. 10 was more on ko- words. 11 was on -i adjectives using weather terms. 暑い (hot), 暖かい (warm), 涼しい (coo l) and 寒い (cold). I spent some time putting them in past-affirmative, past-negative and present-negative forms. Japanese in Mangaland has a small table of common -i adjectives. (small, big, easy, difficult, white, red, blue, black, yellow, tall/expensive, cheap, low, new, old, dark and bright). For the rest of the week, I'm going to take those adjectives, and the weather ones from Jpod101 and practice using them in all 4 forms. I looked ahead to S2-E12 and it's on -na adjectives, so I'll spend the rest of the week on -i adjectives and spend the weekend practicing -na adjectives. (That's the plan, anyway).
今日はとても暖かいです。

Quick update. Went out tonight so nothing done today. TUE and WED, I did the French Assimil 25 and 26, I did Japanese Assimil 29, and both nights I practiced putting -i adjectives into negative, past-affirmative and past-negative.

Another quick update: Every year, I will get sick, at most, once. Now I'm getting over (I hope) the third time I've been sick this winter. Man this sucks. I kept up with my French Assimil, but got a bit into Japanese Assimil last night before I had to stop. I've completed French Assimil lesson 29, and Japanese Assimil lesson 30 (French is catching up! :) ). I'll probably not get much done today again and we'll see about tomorrow.

The sickness that will not go away. Getting better, but it's still lingering. Managed to do Assimil lesson 31 for French and Japanese (French caught up!) today.

I have described in the past, I believe in another thread, about how I don't like to use the same resource for two different languages at the same time. I end up burned out or bored with it. I need to mix things up through the day to keep me motivated and having fun. I should have kept with that. I thought maybe I could plow through Assimil French and Japanese. After all, it was only for a few months before I finished both of them and went back to just 1 language in Assimil at a time.
I have kept up both for the most part, but I've come to not like Assimil Japanese. Maybe it's because I'm getting a bit burned out on it. I have also read some thoughts on the Assimil Japanese course from other people and it seems like it's not thought as highly as other Assimil products.
Either way, I'm done with Assimil Japanese. I will continue to do the French one of course. I have not had much trouble getting myself motivated to do my daily French Assimil. I can still use the Assimil Japanese course for a lot of things. Sentence mining, vocab, grammar examples, listening practice, writing practice, etc. But it's time to go back to the podcasts and other books.
And for now on, I stick to what I know about myself. No more using the same resource for two different languages at the same time. It just ends up burning me out.
As for an update, I did Assimil French lesson 33 today. I'm feeling better now, though, and I plan to get back to my regular schedule tomorrow.

Japanese Sentence Patterns: 17 and 18 - I'm using this no instead of the Newbie Jpod series. Redid 17 and 18 tonight. Also I added a bunch of sentences to my Japanese notebook. That's something I've been neglecting.

French Assimil: Lesson 38 completed
Last night I watched "Inglorious Basterds". I thought it was a good movie, and Christoph Waltz was incredible as Hans Landa. What I really liked about it though is that a good amount of the movie is in German and French, with a scene that even had some Italian in it. I was able to pick up on some of the French that was spoken. Only a word here and there, and some phrases, but I'm only about a 1/3rd of the way through Assimil and I can already notice my progress.

I'm changing up what I'm doing with Japanese (again). Starting to become a recurring theme with me. :) I obtained a few more resources that are directed at beginners so I've decided to work through them. One is Teach Yourself Japanese. I avoided this because it uses romanji, but now I figure since I have plenty of resources that use kana, one romanji resource probably won't be bad. If it is, no big deal, I'll just drop it. The other resource is the Genki textbooks.
So the three main resources I'm using now for Japanese are: Jpod101 Beginner series, Teach Yourself Japanese and Genki. Unfortunately, I'm pretty busy tonight with work, so I probably won't get started on the two new resources until tomorrow.

TY Japanese: Chapter 1
Genki: Greetings
I've "done" the first chapter of TY Japanese twice, which was really just listening to the dialogue and following in the book. I skimmed through the explanation since it was all stuff I already know. But there was a lot of topics covered. The particles も,の and か。 Sentence ending particles よ and ね. The words これ、それ and あれ. Looking ahead, they do pack in the topics. Each chapter covers several things (Dunno how well it's covered yet, though). A shame it's all in romanji.
Did the intro chapter to Genki as well. It's went over all of the greetings plus several other words. No real content yet, it was just a word list and the audio saying the words. Knew most of them but a few new ones were in there. Wrote some of them in my Japanese-only notebook, and I plan to keep adding to it through what I learn from Genki. Flipped ahead in this as well to see what's in store. In the second part of the book (Reading and Writing), they really turn on the kana and kanji. Entire sections are written entirely in Japanese (Instructions, Questions and the Content). I'm really looking forward to that.
