Well 4 weeks down so we have 48 left lets see how long I can last. I only added 100 new kanji this week because I decided to spend more time reviewing then I otherwise would in order to make sure I knew all of them. Made it half way through Pokemon Soulsilver and half way through Final Fantasy 13 as well which was a lot of fun. I downloaded Disgaea 1 and Final Fantasy 7 as well so that I have a large selection of fun things to do. I brought German back into my language learning program listening to the first 4 pimsleur lessons as well as some of the TY book. Hopefully by next week I will be half way through with the TY book for German. Italian is still lagging far behind and I am considering switching it out for another language possibly ancient Greek or Latin.
'Till next week, Cheers.

Week 5 recap:
Japanese:
I discovered an interesting web site called reviewingthekanji.com and found an entire website devoted to creating the stories that go along with Heisig this helped a lot in creating my own stories and cementing them. I hit 1230 and hope to continue at a good clip. I spent a lot of time playing my Japanese games and trying to understand them.
German:
Only one chapter of TY but I did some anki reviews with a German deck in order to increase my vocabulary.
Latin:
I picked up a book called Latin Made Simple on discount at a bookstore and decided to try it out got through the first chapter and hope to make it through one a week. My main goal with latin is to help my learning of other languages (French and such).

Well another week has come and gone and once more I'm left wondering where all the time went. Unfortunately I was unable to study as much as I wanted as my work required me to come in for a lot of overtime. On top of that my computer broke down so I was forced to spend several otherwise productive hours dealing with that. C'est la vie I suppose.
Japanese:
Continued to slog through Heisig's RTK and hit 1600 this morning I would really like to finish the book with number 2042 by the time I update this log next Sunday. Once I finish that I can start learning actual vocabulary as well as grammar.
German:
Learned 100 new words and completed the first unit of Neue Horizonte. I'll continue to keep German on the side until I bring my Japanese up to an acceptable level I really hope to be able to study the Harry Potter books side by side.
Latin:
Learned 100 words and continued to review chapter one. The declensions for different case's are really hard to get a good grasp on and I want to make sure I have a good grasp on the basics before I go to the more advanced.
Carpe Diem, make the day yours and the year will follow.

When I first began writing a log I didn't think much of it only as a way to brag about achievements and what I managed to do but looking back it serves as a tool to remind me of where I was and how much I've done. I remember getting Remembering the Kanji in the mail opening it up and thinking that there is no way I can do this, that I'll never be able to finish the book let alone remember them all and now that I have finished the book I can track my progress and it really makes me feel like learning the language is not just doable but something that I will do. Having finished the book I will continue to review the words in anki in order to cement them in my mind, I would really like to increase my recall speed but that is something that can only come with time and practice. The next week will primarily be me trying out new learning methods and styles and seeing which one works the best for me, I am currently leaning towards the sentence method however smart.fm has an excellent vocabulary training program for Japanese that I will try as well.
My accomplishments for Latin and German are not nearly as great as my Japanese unfortunately, I only managed to finish one half of a unit in the Neue Horizonte book and one chapter in Latin Made Simple. Hopefully with the switch in Japanese from pure vocab to a mixture of vocab and grammar will stimulate my learning of my other languages.

genini1, I hope you don't mind me intruding into your log to express my absolute awe and envy about your rapid progress, especially with the kanji. I really am amazed by how quickly you have been able to go through the entirety of RTK1--what was it, about two months? You most definitely have me beat, because I started it in June and am only to 810 right now (of course, up until this January I only studied it occasionally with a couple characters at a time; now I learn ten per day). Anyways, great job with that. Also, I am amazed at how quickly you are able to go through your Teach Yourself books. You are either really dedicated or have a lot of free time (or I'm just slow).
Also, earlier you mentioned that you were considering Greek. I'm not sure if you were referring to the modern or the ancient language, but I highly recommend learning it (specifically modern Greek, I'm not experienced with Ancient Greek). I think you would really enjoy it, and it's probably easier than Latin. :)
Keep up the great work,
--Philip
