My journey towards polygottery is finally off to a proper start. It's a small step but you've got to start somewhere, right?

My first time learning a language was a bit messy. I'm hoping I've learned some good lessons during those years, and this time I want to document my progress and keep a log of my studies. I've even got a plan this time! :D

At the moment, I have a very limited knowledge of Spanish and it will be my main focus until I reach advanced level.

Since I'm a slightly fickle person, I know that somewhere along the way I'll be itching to start another language. For this reason (and the difficulty I've had during the decision phase) and out of my interest in asian languages I'll also attempt to learn a bit of Mandarin along the way.

I realize trying to learn two languages at the same time could be a recipe for disaster, but my studies of Mandarin will be rather limited. It'll be mostly an attempt to get familiar with the written Mandarin and the tones. I'll try shadowing, getting used to the language etc and I'll limit myself to learning 2, maybe 3 characters a day. I'm not sure if I can keep those characters fresh with only SRS, but I want to see if this is going to work.

Also, I have a somewhat vague idea of what kind of progress I'll be following during the following (god-knows-how-many!) years. As I mentioned before, getting close to fluency in Spanish is the first step.

Then I'll be evaluation my situation. If it's good to go (assuming I'll have enough knowledge of Spanish to work with FSI's Portugue for Spanish Speakers course or something similar) I'll be making Mandarin my main focus, while polishing Spanish and working slowly on getting a base in Portuguese.

Anyway, that's about it.

Feel free to reply if you have a comment. From where I'm standing it sounds doable and a good plan, but I have limited knowledge in learning languages.
