I've been studying Icelandic for about a month now. I've gotten most of the ways through Teach Yourself Icelandic, although not as in depth as I could, and also have Colloquial Icelandic.I was told it skimped on the basics, so I'm doing TYI first to get the basics. I've got 2 kids movies from Iceland (Latibær) and ordered a few books in it.
This is my first time trying to seriously learn a language and it's giving me a lot of trouble. I think I'll be fine when I finally get to the point where I can read in Icelandic... but getting there will be rough. I'm not good at flash cards or rote memorization. I ended up writing up something like 10 pages worth of tables on some basic grammar (not including verbs) that I've been using as reference.
I think I'm making more progress than I realize, but it's mostly passive "I can recognize it when I hear it" progress. I listened to Glanni Glæpur for the first time in a few weeks and understood a lot more of it than I had before. I'm also realizing how little english I actually know.
While I'm doing this, I've also taken to passively listening to Pimsleur German (there isn't a Pimsleur Icelandic that I know of, although I'd love one) while drawing. I took 2 years of German in highschool and retained a bit of it, so for now it's pretty easy. I can't listen to Icelandic while focusing on something else in the same way, so it gets my undivided attention until I can.

How is your Icelandic going? I saw in another thread that you were considering dropping it for now and going with Norwegian instead. What have you chosen to do? Either way, I hope you are very successful. :)
