Hi.
My name is Megan. I am learning Norwegian. I am also learning French at school and have studied a bit of Italian and Esperanto, but I didn't really stick with either one. I might go back to Esperanto again when I have more time, but I'm not sure.
I decided to learn Norwegian after getting back in touch with a friend from Norway. I started learning some basics about the language and my friend, who is learning Swedish, convinced me that if I was going to learn some, I should just go ahead and follow through with it. So, that is what I plan to do. My biggest issue is just staying motivated. I have another friend who might learn Danish, so if that happens, we will have Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish within our French class, which is exciting. Hopefully having friends learning other similar languages will make it more fun and I will actually stick with it this time.
So... materials. I am using Teach Yourself Norwegian. So far I like it but I'm only on the second unit. I'm also using BYKI to learn the vocabulary and am possibly going to start using Anki... once I figure out how it works. Yeah. Because I have so much other stuff going on with school and everything, I am not going to try to set goals I won't be able to achieve. So, my goal right now is basically just to gain a basic understanding of the language within a reasonable amount of time and to not give up. AP exams are steadily creeping up on me, so a lot of my time is going to be consumed by that. I don't want to make a commitment to post every day, because I know that I will get busy and won't do it and then I will get discouraged. So, I will post as often as I can. Hopefully, this will help me stay motivated.
Ha det bra!

Hey Megan. Yeah, Norwegian is fun! I'm focusing on Swedish at the moment, but I know some Norwegian too. I want to learn both languages and it shouldn't be a problem as they're very similar, but we'll see.
I see that you speak French, so maybe you could try Assimil: Le Norvègien Sans Peine, that way you can learn Norwegian through French. I just don't like TY, although I haven't tried the Norwegian course.
There is also a course called: Hugo: Norwegian in three months. I haven't checked it myself, but I read some reviews and apparently the course is pretty heavy. You could give it a try if you're a quick learner or can handle a lot of information at once.
Anyway, lykke til og ha det bra!
