Alright, this will seem utterly stupid. Are FSI courses the free ones at the website? I recently downloaded the Chinese ones in audio format and found out that in the Mandarin description on this site, it reads as the FSI is the best course but it can set you back by 1700$. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks.

That's nice. Then how come in the recommended programs in the description of the profile of Mandarin it's stated that it will cost $1700?

Probably because the FSI-Language-Courses websites hadn't been created when Francois wrote that page, and at the time you could only get them from a company who charged a lot of money for them.
