Hello, I know nothing about Korean, but found some links you may want to check, maybe one of them can help you teach your friend the basics:
http://www.learnkoreanlanguage.com/learn-hangul.html
http://langintro.com/kintro/toc.htm
http://www.omniglot.com/writing/korean.htm
Wikipedia has some material about Korean, but sometimes the presentation there is a little bit complicated for beginners, just have a look at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_language#Writing_system and see if you find something useful.

Tell your friend to just learn it. Learning to read Korean is so easy that rote memorization will suffice.

Wait, you're talking about teaching the Korean script? If you know it, then all you need
to do is teach him/her! grammar etc is another story, but Hangeul I'm sure you know, is
learnable in like 2 hours

Or even less! Last week I learned Hangul in less than an hour, using Sprachprofi's course. The Korean script is so easy. :)
