So I set up an account on www.sharedtalk.com and in like 5 minutes a Brazilian wants
to talk to me. Now I have 3 invites from Brazilians. There are lots of Brazilians on
there. I swear I'm learning the wrong language. I have a city full of Brazilians to
help me and I speak Spanish already. Maybe I should change focus for awhile.
I was able to read and understand all the Italian profiles I read on there. There were
maybe one or two words I wasn't familiar with. I am definitely finding Italian more
readable.
Pimsleur 2: I did lesson 8 while walking. My mind did wander a lot.
I do not "shadow" or repeat any audio when I am listening to it. I've been focusing on
input and comprehension (input hypothesis) but I am wondering if I would benefit from
some more engaging activities.

Pimsleur 2:
Re-listened to lesson 8 a work and driving.
Assimil:
Lessons 19, 20 and 21.
I tried reading some of the dialogs aloud. I have a hard time "shadowing" as I find
hearing both my voice and the recording confusing. Repeating seems to work fine
though.

Assimil:
Listened to dialogs for lessons 26, 27 & 29 (28 is a review lesson with no dialogs)
multiple times while driving back from friends place down south. I probably listened
to each about 5 times.

Well done, keep at it. I learn Italian in college. It's a nice language, isn't it?

I love Italian. It's like an easier friendlier Latin, ha!
Thanks much for the encouragement. It makes this log seem less lonely.

Movie:
Found an Italian version of "Underworld:Rise of the Lycans" and subtitles for it. I
watched some 20 or so minutes of it.
Notes:
I think I need more native materials at this point. Even if they do nothing to help me
learn the language they create interest and motivation. There's a real joy in
recognizing words you've learned out in the "real" world.
I still feel somewhat torn as to how I want to spend time between Italian and
Portuguese. My inclination is to focus more on Italian and do maybe 2 days a week of
Portuguese. Portuguese should be easier from what I've read and I have an abundance of
native speakers in the area.
I started reading Barry Farber's "How to Learn Any Language" as many members found it
inspiring and motivating if somewhat exaggerated. I've gone through the different
sections to get an overview of his methods. Many I have seen mentioned here and
elsewhere but there are plenty of good observations.

Lessons 10 and 11 while walking. I said some of the phrases aloud.
Assimil
Lessons 28 and 29. Lesson 28 is a review lesson.
Notes:
I'm trying to say more of the lessons aloud. I am somewhat torn between the input
hypothesis idea (just concentrating on input in the beginning) and on others ideas of
repeating dialogs early. I figure it can't hurt as long as I don't let my mistakes
discourage me. I really find that exaggerating the accent helps.
