PORTUGUESE Day 6:
Pimsleur Level 1 Units 18 & 19
Possessive pronouns are feeling a lot better now. I found the last few minutes of unit 19 a bit mind bending, though I'm not sure if that's just because I had been doing pimsleur for an hour straight. I may go over that last little bit again later. Also hoping to do unit 20 today, though I have a lot of uni work to get through too so we'll see!
SPANISH:
No reading today. I just went over my vocab on FlashcardDB. It's amazing how easy it is to recognise a Spanish word and translate it to English, but how hard it is with the same words to look at the English word and come up with the Spanish. I guess that's the difference between passive and active vocabulary. So i'm trying to go through my vocab translating from English to Spanish. I guess it's pretty obvious but that's probably the best way to do it.

PORTUGUESE Day 7:
I didn't do any Pimsleur today, but I just watched City of God. This was the first time I had ever heard Brazilian Portuguese outside of Pimsleur. Wow it's a great accent. Very cool sounding. It was so much fun to pick out words and phrases that i've already learnt. I can't wait to watch this again when I've learnt more!

PORTUGUESE Day 8:
I just tried to do unit 20 of Pimsleur but I have had a very long day of essay writing and interviewing new housemates. I'm just too tired to concentrate. It frustrates me that I haven't made progress these past two days, but unfortunately other things have to take priority sometimes. I will try unit 20 again tomorrow and hopefully have time to do a few more units as well. However this whole week will be quite difficult as I have a lot of university commitments.

PORTUGUESE Day 9:
Pimsleur Level 1 Unit 20
Okay, I finally got unit 20 done! I finished my uni work at 5 and thought I'd try and do a little Portuguese before I got too tired/distracted. I went through the unit once then repeated the second half because I was finding it a bit tricky. I would really like to do more, but I know that I am too tired and I would just get frustrated and disheartened. At least I've done a little!

PORTUGUESE Day 10:
Pimsleur Level 1 Units 21 & 22
These units were much easier to get through than unit 20. I'm guessing that mostly comes down to the fact that I am a lot less tired this morning. Pimsleur can be so hypnotic, when you're already tired it's pretty hard to focus!

ymapazagain,
Pimsleur in my opinion can be very hypnotic and it is easy to get lax when you are tired. I have sometimes had to repeat Pimsleur lessons because I just couldn't focus the first time through.
Pimsleur is a tad boring, but if you focus through them you will have a great start on your way to learning Portuguese. It is a fun and beautiful language. Keep up the good work.
Boa Sorte,
Jon

Hi jondesousa,
Thanks so much for the encouragement! Yes, I know Pimsleur can be a bit boring and tiresome, but I know how much it helped me with my Spanish to get me used to talking aloud and to develop a decent accent. So I'm happy to stick with it, sleepiness and all, because I'm sure it will be worth it in the end!
PORTUGUESE Day 11:
Pimsleur Level 1 Unit 23
A weird mistake I keep making in my Portuguese is to say the Russian word (но) for but rather than the Protuguese word (mas). It's strange because I thought it would be Spanish words that would become mixed up in my Portuguese, however this hasn't happened, only Russian.
I haven't done any Spanish in days. It's frustrating, but I just have too much uni work to be able to fit it in. My Spanish is at a level now where it will survive with a few days off. My Portuguese on the other hand I am determind to maintain even with this level of work. It's hard. I read a rather mind bending philosophical piece by Parfit today and my brain couldn't stop churning over it for hours (leaving no space for any other intellectual pursuits!).
