PORTUGUESE Day 12:
Nothing. Slightly annoyed with myself for this, but I did have a very bad day. I woke up to some rather bad news which left me feeling incredibly low. Then that was followed by a philosophy exam and 6 hours of housemate interviews (we finally managed to come to an agreement thank god!). I guess when life gets in the way you've just got to let it and make sure you make up for it later!

PORTUGUESE Day 14:
Because I feel like I haven't made much progress this week due to my other commitments, now that I finally have a free day I think I am going to try and go hell for leather on my Portuguese. I am setting my goal of finishing Level 1 today, so that will mean six units all up. It'd be nice to have finished all of Level One in exactly 2 weeks so why not give it a shot eh? I'll update my progress as I go.
Pimsleur Level 1 Unit 25, 26, 27, 28...
Okay, that's enough, i'm bored! haha...

PORTUGUESE Day 15:
Pimsleur Level 1 Unit 29
I think I will repeat this unit again tomorrow as my responses felt a little slow and laboured. It would be good to feel a little more confident before moving on.
SPANISH:
I just watched the movie XXY and I am amazed at how difficult I find the Argentinian accent to understand. Normally when I watch a film in Spanish my comprehension is at about 80%, but with Argentinian films my comprehension is more like 40%. It's so incredibly frustrating. I think I need to watch the film again with Spanish subtitles to be able to fully understand it.

I had the exact same problem in Argentina itself. It took me almost a week before I'd tuned into the accent. The pronunciation of 'y' and 'll' takes a bit of getting used to.

Hmmm...so, this week hasn't gone so well. I find it very difficult to balance the things that are important to me in my life. Obviously my top priority is my university degree. This week I started my new units, one of which is extremely important for my chosen career path, so I have put in a lot of time with those. I am reasonably new to Melbourne so it's important for me to try and socialise and meet new people. I am rather shy and I have a tendency to lock myself in my room studying and though that may be productive, in the long run it's not healthy! This week I've had social engagements nearly every day and this has taken up a lot of my time. It's good for my state of mind, just not good for my studies! As well as that I try to make it a priority to get some exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. I feel like there just isn't enough time in the day to cover everything that needs to be covered. It's frustrating! But anyway....
PORTUGUESE Day 21:
Pimsleur Level 1 Unit 29 (finally repeated) and 30
YAY! Finished Level 1!

DaraghM - I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the Argentinian accent a struggle! It can be so disheartening sometimes! I think I'm just going to have to hunt out a lot of Argentinian films and Television programs until I start to adjust to it.
