I'm curious. How's your scheduling working?

I'm wanting to the same myself. Right now I'm starting with getting myself up earlier (8.30am). Main problem is I'm used to waking at 12 or 1 pm... And I'm always late for classes, so I'm trying to change it because I do like enjoying mornings when I actually wake up a little bit earlier. The other problem is alarms clocks can never seem to get me out of bed. Even putting them far away so I have to get up hasn't worked, I just go back to bed. So currently I'm trying out Steve Pavlina's methods. There's stuff in his site that could help you.

I also play an instrument, violin, and would really like to be able to do school work, violin practice and language studies for reasonable times each day (say, 2 hours school work, 1 hour violin, 30 minutes of German, 30 minutes of Japanese, for starters)... But it doesn't seem like I have enough time or discipline for it. I also just started swimming classes 2 times a week which takes 2 hours out of those days. I'm slowly trying to straighten up though...

So please share how you're doing it and what you're doing. I'd really like to know. =)

Hi Sei,

Thanks for dropping in for a read. The scheduling has been going okay. I think the biggest issue I'm finding at the moment is that my brain isn't used to focussing for such extended periods of time. Prior to scheduling, I would really only do 2 or so hours of focussed study (if that!), except for on days when I had a uni assignment due and I was in a mad panicked rush to get it finished! I tried a few days where I would begin with uni, then music, then languages (seen as my order of priority), however I would find that when I moved from uni to music my focus would be a little lax, and by the time I moved on to languages I would have no focus left at all.

I'm sure this will improve over time as my brain becomes accustomed to doing so much more work. In the mean time I am scheduling things in a cycle...for example:

Monday = Uni, music, Language
Tuesday = Languages, uni, music
Wednesday = Music, Language, uni

That way, each of my disciplines has the opportunity to receive prime focus time.

I definitely recommend giving this a go. I have achieved so much in the past few days and it's just amazing how much time there actually is in a day when you really plan it well. My only recommendation would be to give yourself the weekend off so that you don't become burdened by too much structure. And don't stress is something interferes with your schedule during the day...it's okay to reshape it as you go - so long as it's due to necessity rather than laziness!

Thanks ymapazagain!

I think I will try that, but with smaller times. I don't think I can maintain focus for 2 hours even, but I will try. Right now I'm working on getting myself up earlier in the morning and I am a bit too tired to be able to even have 1 hour of full concentration, so I will start the real regime as soon as I feel better.

I will also possibly give your method of cycling things a try.

And yeah, I'm certain you are right, there's a lot more time in a day than I take advantage of!

Thanks again for the tips and I wish you all well with all your studies! Also, I'm not a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker, but I can probably give you some help if you need, so don't be shy to ask!

Hmmmm....not going well. In fact I was under orders to take a break from all study this past week (long story, won't bore you all) but I'm feeling ready to get back into things.

It's frustrating because now all of the work I did to get ahead is kinda lost - it's day 62 and I'm only on the 56th unit. Grrr. Though of course, it isn't a race. Haha...I'm just impatient.

Argh! Such slow progress. It's so frustrating! For health reasons I've had to change the focus of my days recently and it's taking a pretty heavy toll on my languages. But at least I've done a little, which is always better than nothing!

I think I might stop tracking day numbers...it's depressing me!
