A military-issued one. It's rather specialized to my field. :)

I've got 1535 cards in the SRS and I've so far gotten 300 of them 'memorized'. Pulled in three MSA articles (economy, culture, and opinion) with sound files and some more Egyptian dialect.

Added another MSA article/news clip about President Obama and Israel. Have 450 cards 'memorized', but a lot of them are easy MSA words that were included in the SRS because Iraqi dialect borrows heavily. Nevertheless, I want some sort of a gauge, so that's it, for the time being. This mode of learning via authentic sources backed up by SRS is absolutely painless and easy to make habitual. I wish I'd been doing it before!

Also want to add that including full sentences is much better than individual words. My Pashto and Iraqi sources are a bit scarce on sentences, but I have a remedy for that, when I start adding a different source for them in the coming weeks. I want to get my backlog down before doing going through the work of adding too much more material.

Interesting. Are you planning on joining the military?

I have thought about joining the military specifically for some sort of language-related work. Not all that seriously, I admit, but it's a possibility. Would you be willing to share any more insights?

Edit: This is in relation to my earlier question about what apparition does, not in response to the question two posts above. This isn't even my log, but it now reads like I was answering the other poster's question.

The smart thing to do is join the military for reasons OTHER than language-related reasons (or at least, only in conjunction with other, more important reasons), because resources (including your language abilities) are only allocated so intelligently. In other words, there's a lot of waste in how the government (any government, in my experience) uses the assets it has. Real newsflash, I know. Just a forewarning to anyone considering it. This means you might join and throughout your whole time of service never use your language skills, even in a job that seems like it would be required. It's just the nature of the beast.

That being said, being in a job that DOES use language skills rules. I consider myself lucky. But I also enjoy other aspects of the military that some might not.
