I've got 1830 cards and I've 'memorized' 800 or so. I've got MSA, Egyptian, Iraqi,
Pashto and Russian, from all kinds of sources. I'm happy to report that I'm beginning
to emerge from the realm of simple basic Pashto words into understanding sentences and
grammar, just from listening and considering. For my part, I'm really glad I'm using
this method, because I'm only spending about a half-hour to 45 minutes each day doing
through the SRS, but I feel I'm retaining so much.

I think it's because I've abandoned my usual pattern of learning 'about' the language
and just exposed myself to it with interest and no stress. I'm not burning all my
grammars yet, however, but considering my experiences with my other languages, I've
gotten to this level faster (with respect to actual hours engaging the language) than
ever before. Granted, I'm dealing with many cognates and related languages, but even
with Russian, on which I've spent MAYBE 15 minutes a day for the past 15 days, and is
not really related to my other languages, I feel at a higher level than when I'd spend
3.75 hours at a time in a grammar or a course. I guess we'll see.

1830 cards, 800 of them memorized (same as yesterday), but I've been deleting quite a few of the cards that are already in my long-term memory (being the duplicates of words I already know--mainly an issue with Arabic and the dialects).

I've also adjusted how I'm grading my answers. For my MSA audio clips, I'm grading the more important-to-know constructions lower than the less-important ones in order to see them more. Since I import the clips wholesale (saving me incredible amounts of time), this is a quick way to sort out the less important and/or redundant material. This is as opposed to selecting and adding each sentence or paragraph individually. I have a feeling that after a few thousand cards I'll be more selective, but for now, in order to build my base and review, I'm doing it this way.

I'm on an MSA kick at the moment, so I'm setting aside the SRS (mostly... still doing the
scheduled reviews) and just listening to MSA podcasts, watching documentaries in it, etc.
I'm not sure why I'm so energized on it, but, hey, I'll take it!

Arabic all the time now because my job requires it! Probably will stay this was for the
next month or so, so I might not update quite as often as I was (because it's not going
to change much). My study will consist of listening to authentic materials and
translating. Simple and necessary. My kind of task!
