Hey Everyone--
I just joined, and I'm glad that I found this website as I much prefer teaching myself languages to learning it in a
classroom setting. My current focus is Mandarin, and I attended Princeton University's summer program (in
Beijing) this past summer (which is fantastic, in fact). However, the program I am enrolled in currently is intense
to the point that I don't sleep more than 3 hours a night, and truly sacrifices good language learning for the sake
of appearing intense. Just a month left, and then I'm really excited to use the resources on this site to aid in my
own self study for the remaining 6 months I have in Beijing.
It's likely that this has been mentioned before, but this is one tool that I have found indispensable to increasing
my
reading comprehension in Chinese. Pop up translators like this one for google chrome:
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/kkmlkkjojmombglm lpbpapmhcaljjkde/ , or pera pera kun for
firefox, make reading online newspapers so much easier. At this point I understand 95% of the content in articles
I read online, and having a tool like this makes figuring out that mysterious 5% faster and smoother
